ELT materials writer, lexicographer & general word fan. Enjoys a #StetWalk & taking photos.
TFW, you've had a slightly frustrating disrupted week jumping around between bitty bits of work & feeling unproductive, so you settle down to do some nice, straightforward #lexicography & the next word on your list is "waggle" 😊

Honestly, I sometimes think #lexicography work should come with counselling. I just had to do a corpus search for the phrase "vomit sth up" ... it was pretty nasty ...

Today, I'm joining @societyofauthors.bsky.social protesting against the use of pirated works by Meta to train their AI models.

According to LibGen, 8 of my books have been stolen without permission or compensation. This is illegal - it's plain and simple theft.

A frustrating #StetWalk this morning, took my glass bottle to the deli to get a milk refill ... only to find they'd run out. Had to resort to plastic milk from the supermarket but then argued with the self-checkout about the empty glass bottle in my shopping bag!
At least there were magnolias ...

TFW, you're writing something about usage labels in dictionaries and find yourself looking up examples of words in a whole bunch of dictionaries (on and offline) to see how they label them ... then realize your search history's going to look really dodgy #lexicographylife
