Today, I'm joining @societyofauthors.bsky.social protesting against the use of pirated works by Meta to train their AI models.

According to LibGen, 8 of my books have been stolen without permission or compensation. This is illegal - it's plain and simple theft.

A frustrating #StetWalk this morning, took my glass bottle to the deli to get a milk refill ... only to find they'd run out. Had to resort to plastic milk from the supermarket but then argued with the self-checkout about the empty glass bottle in my shopping bag!
At least there were magnolias ...

Cold, but blue skies and waving daffs outside Bristol Cathedral on a morning #StetWalk to meet a pal for coffee

Still grey and pain-aggravatingly cold out there, so just a short #StetWalk to admire the hellebores in Royal Fort Gardens

Not new, but "transactional" could be having a bit of a moment ... (trend from English Trends corpus, 2014-now)

Catkins against grey skies on a very short perfunctory #StetWalk

Truly discombobulated by pain today, but a short #StetWalk with blue skies and crocuses helped fleetingly

Crocuses about to unfurl under a tree and glorious tulips in a shop on this morning's #StetWalk

A rather sad sight on today's #StetWalk - a dictionary randomly wedged between a wall and a lamppost 🤷🏼

A lovely evening listening to @tomkinsdeb.bsky.social talk about her new book "Aerth" - looking forward to get started on it #amreading

An afternoon #StetWalk to meet up with a fellow #ELT writer pal for coffee & a natter.

A grey damp kinda day, but I came back down a different street & spotted this burst of colour on the outside of a house:

A gloriously bright, frosty morning #StetWalk ... I planned to go out for maybe an hour & stayed out all morning. What's the point in being #freelance if you can't make the most of a beautiful day?!

My cold's on its way out & I didn't want to provoke renewed snifffles by trudging around in the drizzle, so just a mini #StetWalk to & from a bit of cafe-working:

A grey, drizzly Saturday #StetWalk along the harbour

An eerie, foggy #StetWalk - well worth getting out despite a streaming cold:

It's been a grey, damp week, but unusually mild (13-14°C) & going out in woolly hats & scarves, I've overheated. Today, there were blue skies so I headed out hatless for a post-lunch #StetWalk ... turned out to be just 6°C & felt more like 3°C in the cold wind ... brrrr!!

My new article in the latest edition of Modern English Teacher proposes an alternative (or rather complementary) vocab syllabus for ELT that goes beyond lists of words & delves more into how words actually work.

Very blowy on a short Saturday-morning #StetWalk & hard to stand up at points, but super-snug inside my woolly hat + double hood combo #StormDarragh

A slight struggle of a #StetWalk on a gloomy winter morning. I made it across the river though which, with a high tide, was a muddy, churning flow:
