Started by a group of Edmonton moms using cargo bikes to carry kids/groceries/whatever, we are a group for people wanting to bike for the every day!
Join us to celebrate the 132 Avenue mobility lanes! These lanes provide a safe way for kids and families to roll along 132 Ave, which is home to many schools and recreation facilities.

Let’s make this our biggest Kidical Mass yet! Be ready to ride at 11am!

Good ideas in this episode about reframing anti-car messaging to, e.g. "pro-children’s autonomy," unfortunately I think there’s likely a degree of motonormativity/tipping point percentage of kids who walk/bike to school, below which the the whole concept of children’s autonomy becomes a fringe idea.
New!

We received a lot of requests to release our bonus with Marco te Brömmelstroet, aka “The Fietsprofessor," about a study he co-authored with @ianwalker.bsky.social on where motornomativity comes from... so here it is!

Plus, better language for better streets.

Minister Dreeshen’s comments and overreach into local projects has been deeply concerning 🚨 We must speak up for municipal autonomy and safe streets that support all community members regardless of their needs, abilities or chosen mode of transportation #yegbike 👉 win.newmode.net/pathsforpeop...

Automobile dependence erodes public health in many ways: blunt force trauma (#1 cause for children and young adults), air pollution (CVD, asthma), noise pollution (QoL, dementia) but perhaps the most pernicious is that it has almost completely displaced walking. www.sciencedaily.com/releases/201...
Less than 25 percent of Americans walk for more than ten minutes continuously in a typical week
Many people in the U.S. do not walk, bike or engage in other forms of active transportation, missing an important opportunity to improve their cardiovascular health, concludes a new study.

Thank you to all who donated towards the Holiday Hamper. We raised $550 in total! We did the big shop this morning and will be heading to the Expo Centre in an hour or so to pick up the last couple items from the Holiday Hamper program organizers and deliver everything to the family.

Friends, I test-rode a very fancy e-cargo bike this afternoon, and it felt like a scene in a bad movie where the hitherto dull, b&w landscape suddenly EXPLODES into colour. Oh my god!!

You have to love that this story about Mayor Valérie Plante reclaiming Montreal's streets from cars and trucks is illustrated with a photo of the mayor appearing to laugh in the face of some Formula 1 auto racing big wig. A+ for the NYT Photo Editor. www.nytimes.com/2023/09/16/w...

2023 Fancy Women Bike Ride was a stellar success in Edmonton! Wildfire smoke notwithstanding, about 65 women, girls and a few men, came on the 8km slow roll. We had such fun!
Get ready for a whole lot of cycling sisterhood photos!
