Traveller, historian, writer & nomad. Looking for a home. Inspired by islands & sea & wild places. Annoyed by borders. Outspoken, wayward & often awkward. Proudly ‘unAustralian’. Despises cruelty, all things Trump, Brexit & war-mongering.
Jean-Pierre Filiu has published a supplement to his wonderful Gaza: A History, called A Historian in Gaza. In it, he writes: “The Gaza I knew, and whose length and breadth I’ve travelled, has ceased to exist.” #WilliamDalrymple on #Gaza
‘One of the oldest urban centres on the planet’: Gaza’s rich history in ruins
The territory’s ancient heritage has too often been ignored. As we mourn incalculable human losses, learning about its past can help us better understand the present

All about Nigel as usual - he must keep a file of photos of ‘me with famous right wing people’ for every eventuality - this was posted within minutes of the shooting.

“Further escalation in the Middle East must be avoided” - Yvette Cooper. Yes she condemned Israel’s actions but how weak & pathetic this is.

Why @bbcnewsnight.bsky.social is Nigel Farage on the news every night spreading his dangerous divisive nonsense. You have giving him excessive oxygen since 2016. He has & is continuing to damage this country. His party has 4MPs. Stop giving him attention.

Bob Katter says his family has been here since the “dawn of time”: that would be 1898 when his grandfather Carl Katter (originally "Khittar") born in Bsharri arrived.

Bob takes an MP salary & threatens to punch a journalist asking about his heritage. He gives Lebanese-Aussies a bad name. #katter

So it seems that the “antisemitic” attacks carried out in Australia between 7 Oct and the present are not “antisemitic” at all. They were carried out by criminal gangs supported by the Iranian regime. I think the Zionists and Jewish organisations owe Australians an apology.

Imagine living like this - an army of Israeli drones spying on the enclave 24 hours a day from Gaza’s skies.
Similarly, every Palestinian’s phone in Gaza is tapped by Unit 8200 and their calls stored on Microsoft servers.

⁦‪DanTehan MP for Wannon is not known for nuance, empathy or depth of intellectual thought. ⁦‪The brilliance of Cathy Wilcox.
Do the electors of #Wannon support such a moral and intellectual vacuum?

Are we just gullible, paranoid or plain stupid? Morrison’s poisonous legacy lives on www.smh.com.au/world/north-...
Australia quietly pays US another $800 million for AUKUS despite review
The second payment, made in the second quarter of this year, takes Australia’s contribution to the US industrial base to $1.6 billion with no guarantee AUKUS will continue.

How can we just stop this? Or make the world stop it? Sharing information, going on marches & feeling distress is nothing … does the world need to travel
to Gaza and stand with the Palestinians? We need to intervene somehow. Now.

If you’ve ever helped an elderly neighbour navigate a banking app, call a helpline or read a tiny screen – you’ve witnessed digital exclusion first-hand. We must stop designing customer service systems that exclude.

Stay young – the online world isn’t designed for the old
Technology should empower, not exclude. For many, ageing means lost independence in a digital online world built without them in mind

Yet again, to our shame, an Israeli newspaper is more forthright than our mass media and politicians

"Under the smokescreen of Gaza's destruction, Israel has been working simultaneously on two tracks – a genocide in Gaza and ethnic cleansing in the West Bank"

The Antisemitism report by Jillian Segal is out in Aust & causing unease & concern.

This analysis of the 16 page report is worth reading in full as it says what many are afraid to say & highlights the pitfalls of engaging in actions that may well be not all they appear to be.

None of this passes the pub test - The Shot
Jillian Segal’s report, the entire double-spaced, decorative and glossy 16 pages of it, is largely insulting dross.
