I knew it was coming but this news is still a gut punch. There is no way to tell the history of Black life in this country in an ideologically correct way per Trump, because Trump wants to erase Black history (and, I fear, life). apnews.com/article/trum...
Trump executive order on Smithsonian targets funding for programs with 'improper ideology'
President Donald Trump has signed an executive order on the Smithsonian Institution that targets funding to programs that contain what he calls “divisive narratives” and “improper ideology.”

Religious groups who work with foreign aid have consistently told me the same thing, over and over, since the gutting of USAID: people — real people — are going to die, including children.

According to this NYTimes piece, it’s already begun.
Elon Musk says that no one has died because he slashed humanitarian aid. I went to South Sudan to check if that's true. It's not. Meet Peter, Achol and Evan, ages 10, 8 and 5. The reckless actions of the world's richest men are killing the world's poorest kids www.nytimes.com/interactive/...
Opinion | Musk Said No One Has Died Since Aid Was Cut. That Isn’t True. (Gift Article)
A journey through the front lines of global poverty shows that when the world’s richest men slash aid for the world’s poorest children, the result is sickness, starvation and death.

Just restating the simple point: President lacks the constitutional authority to close a department created by Congress. Full stop. Both the creation and on-going funding of these Depts are LAWS not suggestions. This is criminal conduct. www.wsj.com/politics/pol... via @WSJ
Exclusive | Draft of Trump Executive Order Aims to Eliminate Education Department
Secretary Linda McMahon would be directed to “take all necessary steps to facilitate the closure” based on “the maximum extent appropriate and permitted by law.”

Dear world, please do not judge us harshly. Most of us are good-caring people, and we hate him too.

"This is in violation of a presidential executive order. It needs to stop" -- Elon Musk, on Hannity's show, makes clear he has no idea how the American government works by asserting that Trump can use executive orders to unilaterally impound funds appropriated by Congress

Anyone know if the CDC website is being rebuilt by folks looking for good trouble? Among the (un)intended consequences is disruption in public health classes needed for the major. I know about AMA—others?

I feel like I'm going insane every time I see a media story about DOGE that doesn't also mention the fact that the Government Accountability Office exists and performs the exact function that DOGE pretends to, only in a credibly constitutional, non-partisan, and conflict-of-interest-free manner

👀 DOJ acknowledges making two significant errors during a court hearing last week on efforts to dismantle USAID

1) It said only 500 employees had been placed on leave. Actual number was 2,140.

2) Said only future contracts were stopped. Existing contracts were also stopped.

Elon—the richest man on Earth—is gutting the world’s largest provider of food aid. He could end world hunger single-handedly and still be the richest man alive. But he won’t.

Instead, he spent 40 million on Super Bowl ads attacking USAID!

Stand with USAID: share this counter-ad…
