I have seen this so many times! Even when someone is diagnosed with cancer, others will try to find a way to blame them for their illness.
When someone becomes disabled or chronically ill, people will twist themselves into knots finding a way to blame them. They need to find fault so they don’t have to face the randomness of life.

The truth is, anyone can become disabled at any time.

Good health is not a guarantee.

Donald Trump and Elon Musk have cut off funding for half of the health centers that serve 400,000 Virginians, forcing some to close, which could mean up to 200,000 Virginians are suddenly without healthcare

Followed these good folks on other socials in the early days of the pandemic. They were a major source for me when I was answering questions from my local community about COVID. @covid19disease.bsky.social is definitely worth a follow.

Know I’m posting a lot, but I’m infuriated. Advocacy should not be a dirty word. Helping patients get the care they need to survive should not be targeted. I’ve helped veterans get VA disability, children on Medicaid get wheelchairs, and pain meds for cancer patients. How is this a problem?
🚨BREAKING. From a program officer at the National Science Foundation, a list of keywords that can cause a grant to be pulled. I will be sharing screenshots of these keywords along with a decision tree. Please share widely. This is a crisis for academic freedom & science.

The US is abandoning its position as a world leader in healthcare and public health. Already hearing from international colleagues about the deletion of US health info. It doesn’t just hurt the US, it also hurts smaller countries that don’t have our resources. It will only get worse under RFK.

The Electoral College is a racist remnant of legal enslavement. Never forget that enslaved Black people were considered 3/5 of a person so the agrarian Southern states could hold more power. Its legacy is the disenfranchisement of urban Americans.
The Electoral College is electoral DEI for rural white people.
As much as those people caterwaul about others having unfair advantages, they would NEVER give up their own unfair advantages, prolly because they are a pack of fucking hypocrites.

Concerned today about people receiving Social Security & VA disability benefits. In my freelance advocacy, I work with people who receive one or both. If SS and VA disability are ended, or even late this month, a lot of folks will be in a bad financial situation. This doesn’t even touch 1/?

Heaven forbid that the government do anything to help citizens. With the oligarchs in control, I expect more government services being shut down so that corporations can make more money.
Elon Musk is now bragging about getting rid of the team that put together the 'Direct File' tax filing system, which allows citizens to easily file their taxes for free.

Direct File is a big target of the for-profit tax prep industry including corporations like Intuit and H&R Block.

How is someone who has not been approved by Congress being allowed to take over entire sections of the US government?

Removing the US from WHO is going to be catastrophic, not just for the US but the world. Infectious diseases don’t recognize borders.
This morning Uganda announced a new Ebola outbreak.

The last time there was an Ebola outbreak in Uganda, the CDC worked with the WHO on helping end it.

But now, the CDC can’t even talk to the WHO.

I repeat, again and again, this is pure stupidity that will only hurt us.

Another example of the cluster in DC.
Federal employees are receiving crude messages after the Trump administration's new email system turned out to be insecure.

One of the mailing lists, for NOAA employees, is allowing emails to go through without any verification.

Despite not being a licensed pharmacist, I put my compounding classes to good use.

Two years ago, I started a batch of spiced rum cordial & forgot about it until recently. Pulled the spices out & added homemade ginger simple syrup. It is now divine.

Transferable skills!

I use the MMWR on regular basis. It provides information on what is making Americans sick and what is killing them. Without it, there’s no centralized publication that gives information on the TB outbreak in Kansas or how bird flu. Another example of the cluster that is Washington DC right now.
The CDC’s MMWR (Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report) did not come out last week.

The first time in generations.

Hasn’t come out today and I can almost assure you it will not.

Why? Trump wants it reviewed *by a political appointee*

Regardless of your view of that journal, that is censorship.

This is infuriating. It is nothing less than an attempt to completely disenfranchise Native American communities. It continues a horrific legacy of the US government trying to deny citizenship to Native Americans.
Under the GOP's SAVE Act, Tribal IDs would NO LONGER be accepted as valid identification to register to vote.

This is a direct attack on the voting rights of Native American communities.

A veteran I’m working with has been approved for 70% VA disability. This is the 3rd veteran I have been honored to assist in gaining the benefits they deserve. All of them are at least at 70%. VA disability benefits are tax-free and each vet is receiving between $1,759 and $2,340 a month!

Back in 2018, I was at a conference where many were excited about using smart phone functionality to improve patient care. When I pointed out just because somebody had a smart phone didn’t mean they knew how to use it, I was ignored. Tech alone doesn’t improve things. #DigitalDivide
