We're having a potluck to make up for not getting paid, so I made foccacia. The first is just sea salt, since we're having jambalaya and chili; the other is a half-batch to use the last of my flour and has Trader Joe's cinnamon roll spread inside with thinly sliced apples and cinnamon sugar on top.

I made pão de queijo today at last, and, for a few delicious moments, I was back in São Paulo. My child, meanwhile, took one bite and handed the rest to me. I do not know where I have gone wrong that a warm nugget of cheesy bread did not appeal. More for me?

Earrings, a necklace, and a bracelet laid out on green tissue paper. All are in shades of purple and gold. The necklace also has some teal beads, while the bracelet has tiny flowers. Very summer-bleeding-into-fall, with light purples deepening into violet and then eggplant/aubergine.

Found a new bakery today where I got the most amazing croissant-crust lemon mascarpone tart and a turmeric and ginger tea called "Cup of Sunshine." I just hate that it's an hour away because that is NOT the sort of place you just pop into without planning.

Grocery greenery and carnations keep my peonies company this time of year. I can never get enough of their incredible smell. They remind me of childhood and the line of peony bushes in our backyard. Let's just hope I evicted all the ants...

Despite my apparent best efforts to kill them, my peonies and coral honeysuckle are coming back after taking the winter off. I love the time of year when plants start picking up where they left off the year before.
Coral honeysuckle vine climbing up one side of a yellow wooden arbor with a yet-untreated wooden bench beneath for seating. By the end of the summer, the entire trellis will likely be covered, creating shade for anyone resting on the bench. A relatively small, bright green peony bush in messy landscaping, sporting a solitary deep red bud. The bush was planted last year, so it's not very sturdy yet, and the weight of the bud causes the stem to dip toward the ground. An older, more established peony bush in a solitary landscaping plot next to a downspout. The leaves are a darker green shading toward reddish-brown around the edges. More buds have formed on this bush, which will blossom into large pink blooms.

I'm just starting to get my feet under me with it (it's only taken 22 years since the first time I picked up a hook), so I'm just sitting here in Shawl-land.
Crocheted shawl draped over an enormous cardboard box. It's a scalloped shell pattern made from a variegated yarn. The colors run blue-teal-green-yellow-purple-maroon-maroonybluepurple-blue-turquoise-blue-maroonybluepurple-maroon-purple-yellow. It's prettier than that makes it sound, and the yarn is so soft.

This fine fellow brings at least six daily snuggles to the table, slightly counterbalanced by constantly stealing your seat when you get up off the couch. But you can add a good dozen requests to drink straight from the bathtub faucet in there.

Congratulations America! The Polity Project has downgraded its score for the USA from +8 (democracy with factionalism/polarization) to 0 (freely elected executive, 8; total lack of constraints on executive action, 1; restricted factionalism, 6). President Trump began ruling by decree on “Day One”; Congress has done nothing to rein him in; there is some reaction by the courts but time has proven that Trump is an expert in delaying, ignoring, or otherwise avoiding legal accountability for years (until legal action becomes irrelevant). Ignoring the Constitution and Rule of Law is the functional equivalent to suspending the constitution. USA scores 4 on democratic authority and 4 on autocratic authority (POLITY = 0). This change is considered an autocoup (executive coup) and an Adverse Regime Change.

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Everything I ordered from @fridaytea.com arrived a day ago, and they paid attention to the fact I only ordered decaf when throwing in two samples. I'd had my eye on the Choco Cherry Decaf, and I love that I got to try it today (Verdict: Yum!)
