The Diplomat is coming back for season 3 on Netflix tomorrow. I love love love that show. The writing is terrific. Keri Russell is excellent. I have to admit I didn’t know Rufus Sewell before this show, but I am now totally smitten.

I am sad to learn that Thomas Perry has passed away.

He was a master of the taut intellectual thriller. A line that never fails to make me laugh—He’s old in the way of a seven-foot rattlesnake.

This gift article is an excellent summary of his fascinating life.

Confession: I sleep with this book. Don’t worry—it’s the audiobook, and I have insomnia, The Same Bright Stars brings me so much joy that when I wake up in the middle of the night, I can easily slip into the world so artfully created by Ethan Joella and feel at peace.

I just built a raised bed garden and the next day it grew a dog! Can’t wait to see what happens when I plant the beans.

There’s a new Carl Hiaasen book coming out! Fever Beach drops on May 13th. I’m counting down the days like Christmas is coming. In celebration of the imminent arrival of Fever Beach, I decided to write a review of one of my favorite books. Read the review on IG www.instagram.com/p/DIO_v3aAX7...

When Amazon launched in 1995, there were 5,500 indie bookshops in the U.S., with 7,000 locations. By May of 2023, that number had decreased to 2,185 indies & 2,599 locations.

When you purchase audiobooks via Libro.fm vs. Audible, you directly support indie bookshops. Let's make that number grow ❤️

Tanner is a 120 pound lab. I always say his body had to be that big to hold his enormous heart. He greets every person and creature with love.

I took the photo of Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt two years ago and have tried several times to write a review. Nothing I wrote could do it justice.

This book will make you smile and laugh and cry.

Many animal shelters are overwhelmed from people dropping off beloved pets they can't take with them as they flee. Please consider donating and fostering. Pasadena Humane is one such org. Contact your local animal orgs to see if they need help.

I wrote the latest cover story for The Atlantic. It's about the far-ranging implications of one simple statistic: Americans have never spent so much time alone, and surging solitude is warping our society.

I'm really proud of it, and I hope you read it.
