Bank Island and Wheldrake Ings Patchworker
Thanks to the great team @ldvnnr.bsky.social for finding me my first YOC area and patch Firecrest. Waited a long, long time to see one. Thankfully, I got brief but much better views than I could capture with the camera😂, as it hopped around the NE base bushes. I'll try again in the morning.

Water level at Bank Island deep enough to keep a Goldeneye and 7 Tufted duck occupied. Access to the hides needs wellies and they will probably be inaccessible in a few hours with rising river.

Hundreds of teal and wigeon, a dozen shovellar and 5 Gadwall on the low grounds. A juv peregrine hunting.

Back in action @ldvnnr.bsky.social Bank island! A bit more flooding has brought in the wildfowl, mainly teal and wigeon. Low grounds are also flooding. I imagine the river path between Bank Island and wheldrake ings will be flooded by tomorrow.

Flock of around 600 Goldfinch remains at Elvington. There didn't seem to be much else mixed in with them today.

Big flock of Goldfinch / linnet / other seed eating species outside the house this winter. About 600 birds 85% goldfinch.

#nocmig barnacle geese over Elvington 4am this morning. There is a feral population at York Uni though so no idea of the origin of these birds.

#nocmig how are people recording/ uploading audacity clips to maintain sound quality? I use sharex to grab a clip, which sounds fine on other platforms, but bluesky's compression (I think) makes them useless when uploaded here, way too much noise.

One of those days when the sky is absolutely full of swallows and martins at Wheldrake ings this afternoon. Also plenty of warblers moving through and green sandpipers and a Black tailed godwit on the pool

#nocmig flock of common scoter over Elvington last night.

Wykeham Ortolan bunting showed briefly again at 17:20 and 18:15 this evening. Very elusive, do ving into same piece of cover and disappearing. My theory, it's on a nest as a world first hybrid of yellowhammer / Ortolan🤪

I thought all my nightjar sightings were going to silhouette flight views at dusk, so I was over the moon to get these daylight views today.

Interesting plumage on one 🕜 f our house sparrows. Red brown on the breast is normally unique to some male Italian sparrows. Wonder if there's any Italian genes in there

Great be recording Quail over the last couple of nights from the garden, but even better to get a Pink Robin and Greenish Warbler!!!😂#nocmig

Small grey falcon zipped through the field neighbouring the house yesterday. For my own sanity I'll put it down as a hobby, but gosh my first thought was 1st summer male RFF even before I realized there's an influx going on.
