A Larry tradition has come to Bluesky!
On the first day of Christmas my true love sent to me, a partridge in a pear tree.
Ate it.

Tonight's random thought... Christmas is so much prettier with astigmatism. But still very fuzzy.

the erasure of 20+ years of news stories here is yet another sign that future generations will have much richer knowledge of the 1930s than they will the GW Bush and Obama years. The wayback machine is carrying a lot of weight these days. If that goes, adios: variety.com/2024/digital...

If one more fic I read has people shopping at Target in places like Edmonton or Toronto, I'm going to lose it. There was only a very short period of time that was possible and 2023 wasn't it!

We - with good reason - spend hours trashing Elon Musk for destroying Twitter. But I'd say that Sundar Pichai and Prabhakar Raghavan deserve a hundred times more bile for destroying Google Search, and have unquestionably harmed society so that they can make Google over $100bn a year.

Terrific author’s note from C K McDonnell. Automating a process is stupid if the process is the point.

Also, if a book lasts into further reprints, is read maybe, hopefully, into the future, these notes will be valuable, lived history.

I absolutely do not want an algorithm. The last thing I need is to have a poorly written computer code concocted by a bunch of underpaid recent tech school grads, hepped up on a diet of red bull and hot pockets, deciding what I should read.

My feed, my choices, in chronological order. That's it.
I saw a take that was like "bluesky needs an algorithm, I don't want to see 100 posts like 'i made coconut curry today'" and I cannot disagree more. I log on to humanity's World Wide Web to see human thoughts. I do not need a god damned robot to tell me which thoughts it thinks are the most human
