Just got the best out-of-office message I've ever seen from a fellow academic:
"I am currently away on leave. If this is an emergency... well, I doubt it. What could possibly be an emergency in my line of work?"

@martinauccioli.bsky.social came and gave an excellent talk this week @tufts.edu about how increases to work regularity (not necessarily total hours) can lower the child penalty for mothers using data from a law change in Australia. Such a great paper!

Finally getting to @itsafronomics.bsky.social book “The Double Tax”. I am learning so much about the intersection of gender/ racial gaps. Also highly recommend the audible version for Anna’s fantastic laughter (if we don’t laugh we cry type of moments).

It’s hard to convey just how much Chicagoans are mobilizing against ICE. Don’t want to downplay the harm, or make it seem like a fair fight. But in neighborhoods across this city, ICE is getting chased by people blowing whistles and shouting. People are running TOWARD ICE to protect their neighbors.

Totally understandable, but devastating for MIT and for the US. This is just the beginning.
"The University of Zurich said the married couple, who currently work at MIT, would join its economics faculty …. [They] will be moving … at a time when experts are warning that Trump's cuts to research funding and attacks on … freedoms could lead to a brain drain …."

I was supposed to go to the taping of a true crime podcast with a friend tonight but she threw out her back and now my plans are cancelled…I believe this is a leading indicator I’m in perimenopause

The Damage Done: @marianneguenot.bsky.social tells the story of clinical trials derailed by the administration's reckless science policy, across kidney disease, HIV, Alzheimer's disease, and cancer. Years of work and money thrown away, at times just short of a cure.
