By now, we've all seen the video of Senator Alex Padilla (D-CA) being forcibly removed and handcuffed for asking a question during Kristi Noem's press conference.

But what Noem said just moments before the video was taken is "classic authoritarian red-baiting," points out @davidcorn.bsky.social.

Sen Cory Booker is already on the Senate floor speaking out.

He’s right: this isn’t an isolated incident—it’s a pattern of abuse by the Trump regime targeting those who dare to hold them accountable & law enforcement engaged in racial profiling.

If this is how this administration responds to a Senator with a question, you can only imagine what they're doing to farmworkers, to cooks, and to day laborers throughout California and across the country.

We will hold this administration accountable.

Opinion | I knew the pain of apartheid. How dare Trump embrace Afrikaners as refugees.
If the Episcopal Church had agreed to resettle South African Boers, then it would have elevated a lie that will affect refugee resettlement for years to come.

Every independent analysis is clear: the budget bill passed early this morning by the House GOP will gut essential programs like Medicaid and SNAP for working Americans, and make the ultra-wealthy richer.

We must do everything we can stop this bill in the Senate.

Republicans are scheduling votes in the DEAD OF NIGHT on Trump's "big, beautiful bill."

They advanced their bill last night at 10:30PM. The next vote is scheduled for 1AM on Wednesday.

Why hide? Maybe because this bill rips away health care from babies, new moms, and seniors.

I've been saying this for months now.
If ICE agents don't have show their badges or faces, if they can just pull people off the street or out of their homes into an unmarked vehiicle and take them to an untraceable location, what stops any group of men with jackets and a van from doing that?

Using police powers of the state to control, punish, or manipulate adversarial political actors is a hallmark of authoritarian regimes. In a democracy, a conflict between a mayor and the federal government would be mediated by the state, courts, and good faith actors, even if they disagree.

There is no fucking "invasion" and even a Trump judge says so.

These dumb fascists are beyond parody.
Stephen Miller says they are “actively looking at” suspending the writ of habeas corpus, which is only allowed when the US has been invaded or during an insurrection, which would not allow people to challenge their incarceration in court if they are arrested and detained.
