am seed saving from my herb garden for the first time. i have to say this is one of the best antidotes to the emotional states rendered by late trumpian politics. sunday morning kitchen witch reporting for duty.

also, either dried shiso seeds smell like dr. pepper, or i’ve been at this too long.

future students of history will be asked to interpret 2025 with images like this.
This picture says everything about the state of our nation right now, peaceful clergy being arrested and forced face-down on the pavement.

this weekend my very neurotic and under-socialized rescue great dane had a successful hangout with my colleague’s very nervous and tremendously barky mini dachshund.

and if they can do THAT, eight fucking dems can hold their ground for struggling americans. HARD
THINGS ARE ACHIEVABLE.

this. plain and simple.
This deal to reopen the government is fucking disgraceful.

Tens of millions will lose their healthcare. Trump will be emboldened.

This is exactly what’s wrong with Democratic Party leadership and why we need more people in Congress who will actually hold the line.

i follow a number of hourly animal accounts. what you don’t know is that my feed is filled with cuteness and this shit is the only thing that is propping me up in 2025. i was raised on 2008 twitter and you’ll never convince me that chronological feed social media can’t bring joy and frivolity.

hey team scholar: has anyone else been offered the opportunity to use an AI tool from academia.edu that will turn your work into a short comic? i can decide how i feel about it. it’s surprisingly good. and accessible. and isn’t that what we want for our work, at least if we care about engagement?

when in doubt, follow historical examples like the Black Panther Party ✊🏻
If we are to survive SNAP benefits being cut, communities will need to come together, organize, and likely step in where these programs have disappeared. This isn’t something that hasn’t been done before! It can be done again! These programs partly exist because needs were NOT being met.

i know we’ve been over this before, but one more time, just so we are clear: our agendas involve 1) the cultivation of taste 2) closet organization 3) collaborating on the dismantling the capitalist patriarchy 4) many many many gender chores.

soooo many gender chores.
Louder for those in the back of the room.

remember hope? this is what hope looks like.
For New Yorkers who work the night shift, it can be nearly impossible to participate in political life of our city.

So tonight we’re bringing this campaign to them — starting with taxi drivers waiting at LaGuardia.

you know you’re living in fascist times when you start your personal psychotherapy sessions with “how bad is the collective stress level” & “how am i caring for others” check in.

i know y’all know. just reminding that you’re not alone & we can take care of ourselves & each other at the same time.

today my therapist told me that it’s ok, in fact, the best we can do these days, to simultaneously hold any joy we have and the sorrow/fury/rage/anxiety we have for the world. in fact, she said, it’s the very best we can do in these times. we start every sesh exchanging how worried we are for folx.

i myself only wear this on the first day of classes. i find the pantaloons make me look a bit chubby and the hat flattens my hair.
Consider yourself an academic? But where is your hat with tassel, the hair worn in a plait, the spotted suit and checked tights, like this fella from 1773 - called: the Academic Mac - is wearing? #academicchatter

oh, yeah, you can’t get it if you’re a dem.
Today, Mike Johnson will keep the House adjourned for the 81st day out of the last 93.

12 days of work in over 3 months.

With full pay and benefits.

The senate has been working, so this is not about the shutdown.

It is about avoiding a vote to release the Epstein files.

someone in the comments said “roan rolled.”

see, the internet still has a hidden gem of goodness here and there if you squint, tilt your head to the left, and stand in one foot.

does anyone else indulge
in flights of fancy about the post- period when we get to rebuild this mess? like, just little daydreams here and there? as if one might actually survive this hellish reign and life to see a better day?

my question to anyone declaring they are disengaged is: what’s their relationship to privilege? are they shutting down
because they’re well-padded by economic security, able-bodied and comfortable to move about as they please, socially protected by race and sexual identity? if yes, time to disrupt.

last week i asked my local
pharmacy about the covid
vax. they told me i needed an rx from pcp. no problem! got it sent over. early last week they were out. today i called to make sure and they said they would no
longer give it to a 52 year old, even with an rx, for fear of being sued by the feds.

we make the road by walking. always.
If your "allyship" is conditional on trans people behaving perfectly, you're not an ally. You just want to claim the status.

Ally is a verb, not a noun.

the clear, coherent two paragraphs i’ve been looking for since thursday. thanks, cynthia!
I wrote about the groypers and the Fuentes-Kirk fight years ago, in Hate in the Homeland. Cautioning here that there is still a lot to know about the shooter’s motivation, I’m sharing these two paragraphs here to set the history of this fight in context:

fun fact: i entered college with a plan to become a television journalist. one mass comm introductory class and i was so horrified that the media constructed truth instead of reporting The Facts that i went off in search of a new major and eventually found my way to public history and my academe.
