Thinking regulatory thoughts, interspersed with running long distances very slowly.
Whoa! Here we go again!

I’m planning to do the Big Garden Birdwatch today, just as soon as the birds stop flying past the window at 80mph. Backwards.

The legend strikes again
What a total star! 🌟

Nicky Spinks wins the Spine Challenger North 2025. She said her highlight was the food, which as Checkpoint Lead, I’m taking as an enormous win! 💪🏻🤩

Mind boggling at the new list of Royal Warrant suppliers published by Buckingham Palace. Building services, champagne, horse feed, no surprise. But also - recorded telephone messages, potted shrimps, and kilt hosiery? Also several different pest controllers - do they have a mouse problem?

So.
Farewell then, second half of the Pensions Review. Instead, how about we have a full cross-party review of financial provision, or lack of it, for later life? Including housing wealth and funding for long term care? Because that’s what’s urgently needed.

Delighted that Jasmin Paris has been included, and rightly so, in the FT’s 25 Most Influential Women of 2024. Especially for her heroic efforts as the first woman, and one of the very few people, ever to finish the Barkley Marathons. The FT’s 25 most influential women of 2024 on.ft.com/3ZoUYRn

'That's nice tax relief on pension investment you have there. It would be a shame if anything happened to it...'.
“Investment in pensions is, as you know, very generously provided for in terms of tax relief” says UK pensions minister Emma Reynolds who told that FT she was not thinking about mandating pension schemes to invest in UK assets “for now, but let’s see where we get to” www.ft.com/content/b920...

It’s proving tricky to get the message out that, once an athlete has symptomatic exercise associated hyponatraemia (EAH) drinking electrolyte solution won’t help. It will worsen their state.

2 key messages remain:

1) Drink to thirst
2) If you develop symptoms of EAH, stop drinking
