Don’t recall there being much outrage when Conservative Downing Sts in every administration of last 14 yrs doled out honours to scores of backbench MPs basically for just being MPs.

We should have far fewer political honours but the thrice elected Mayor of London is a weird place to start.

John Prescott used to say “when I die all they’ll go on about is that bloody punch!” Well no, they went on about a whole lot more. I did a dozen or so interviews paying tribute today and it was so nice to hear so many recalling him so fondly and recognising his enormous achievers and character

“Don’t feed the trolls” also extends to bad opinion pieces in papers of record.

They run them bc people react to them the most.

If we stop linking to bad columns and instead post thinkers we find valuable (& generate convo around it), incentives change.

It’s not easy and takes constant practice!

So it turns out they spent £715 million on sending a grand total of FOUR volunteers to Rwanda.

For comparison, this is more than you could expect to spend on building an entire brand new hospital in the UK
In July, I FOI'd the Home Office for the full breakdown of spending on the Rwanda scheme

I was refused because the government planned to publish the data in future, and today is the day. These numbers are in millions

✅ Yes to political campaign financing.
But we need other check & balances in our electoral system

✅ PR to ensure there can never be another ‘winner takes all’ result

✅ A written constitution with clear checks, balances & enshrined constitutional rights & Citizen Assemblies
Dear @keirstarmer2.bsky.social,

Please move the laws around political & campaign financing to the top of your list

Or…

Expect 1 term that ends in handing power of this country to a foreign billionaire proxy PM and his little puppet

Yours,

The people of this country paying attention.
