Flag Day / No Kings celebration today. A highlight was when the huge crowd hushed for a Langston Hughes' poem:
"Let America be the dream the dreamers dreamed—
Let it be that great strong land of love
Where never kings connive nor tyrants scheme
That any man be crushed by one above."

If your city is destroyed in a hurricane this year, the United States will be too poor to help you rebuild.

But if your city is trying to rebuild a democracy with peaceful protests, we have MILLIONS to deploy men with weapons to destroy you.

Mexico’s economy minister Marcelo Ebrard says, “It makes no sense for the United States to levy a tariff on a product in which you have a surplus.” Most of Trump's policies fall into the category of "It makes no sense to _____."

A good economy doesn’t exploit resources; it values them. We’ve been taught that growth means more extraction, more harm. But what if growth meant healing? What if our economy was built to restore forests, to clean the oceans, to bring peace and feed the hungry?

Still trying to process the artistic masterpiece that is Sinners? This article provides a great analysis of "... a vampire slaughterhouse film that’s also a period piece about the near-impossibility of upward mobility in the segregation economy."
The new film “Sinners” is a symphony of vampire bites, gunshot wounds, and people being staked in the heart and left to burn alive, @adamserwer.bsky.social writes. But the true horror is the Jim Crow economy, which drives every event in the film.
The Jim Crow Economy Is the True Horror in 'Sinners'
The film illustrates the near-impossibility of upward mobility during the segregation era.

For all you gamers, some fun reading:
"The spot we chose is bordered on two sides by forest and on the third by one of those huge brick piles. The landscape here shifts abruptly. One moment you are walking through dense foliage and then, suddenly: bricks. It takes some getting used to."

Why is the Trump regime committing bioterrorism against Americans???
If another country cut off our supply of vaccines or unleashed contagious vaccine-preventable diseases on us, we would call it what it is: bioterrorism.

Just because it’s a Kennedy doing it to us from inside the house does not change that.

Now is a good time to think about empathy. Who do you consider "worthy" of your empathy? (Who's your neighbor?) How will you act on your empathy? (How much will you risk to help your neighbor?) If the loss of empathy is barbarism, we need to cultivate empathy, and sow it.

USA is a negative role model now! As in, do the right thing, or you'll end up like the United States! Sigh ... Power on, Canadian voters, here's hoping the good prevail.

Dear Leader is a rational human being who makes wise decisions & is fully competent to take actions impacting global trade, economic stability, and people's lives. There is nothing rash, nonsensical, self-serving, maniacal, sociopathic, or terrifying in any of his recent (or future) actions.

As goes Missouri, so goes the USA. Great commentary by Jess Piper about GOP/MAGA/techbro strategy to weaken labor, gut education, disempower the public, and create a desperate populace that won't fight back against bad business, bad policies, or dwindling services.
I hear people all around me saying, “They are going to crash the economy. Surely they don’t mean to crash the economy.”

I beg to differ. This is curated failure. open.substack.com/pub/jesspipe...

Thanks, Republican voters!
Nearly every Republican in the Senate voted to overturn a Biden Admin rule that limited bank overdraft fees to $5.

This rule, initially established by the now gutted CFPB, was expected to save consumers $5 billion annually.

The GOP is the party of junk fees.
