Honoured to judge the National Poetry Competition again. As an ex-winner, I know how life-changing it is to find your work validated by experts; as a former judge, I know it's a real privilege to read work people put the best of themselves into making. Take a punt and good luck.

It’s Learning Disability Week 2025 and yesterday I read some poems at St James’ Hospital, Leeds. Met lovely nurses who make me hopeful for care offered to people with additional needs. Here’s one of the poems, published in Butcher’s Dog last year xxx

This is the first time I’ve used a power point to talk about my nature-landscape memoir, The Ghost Lake. I’m praying to the gods of technology that all goes well with it.

Come along to Filey lit fest today, the evron centre 1.30 to see me fly or fail! It’s just £5.00 and you can pay on the door.

If you can help, please do. #curae is not publicly funded - it’s me and a very small volunteer team. We’re up to £820 on the bursary fund for our three eventual winners. Unpaid care is intersectional with financial hardship & many challenges. Let’s do this.
Today I launch a fundraiser to support the 2025 #Curae prize for unpaid carers who are also writers or would like to be. Anything you can add to the pot will go directly towards bursary funds for our three winners (announced 1st June).

Photo of my notebook at Arvon just after @carolinebirduk.bsky.social gave us the prompt. I’m pleased to see the neighbour collecting budgie feathers survived through to the final poem! @atriumpoetry.bsky.social @hollyannepoet.bsky.social @clairewalkerpoetry.bsky.social @arvonfoundation.bsky.social

In 2023 at Arvon, @carolinebirduk.bsky.social read James Tate’s ‘I left my couch in Tatamagouche’. The prompt was to write about attempting to do something ridiculous. My poem in Atrium today is the result. Thank you Caroline! Thank you @hollyannepoet.bsky.social @clairewalkerpoetry.bsky.social

OMG why is writing a poem so hard?! I’ve changed the word ‘golden’ to ‘gold’ and back again a million times! Also, no one is forcing to write poetry so I can only blame myself! 😫🫨💖😆
