I'm a neurodivergent author of horror and weird fiction, sci-fi and fantasy, and superheroes. A gamer, hobbyist artist, and lover of world building. I read every day, write as much as I can, and love looking at the world differently. I switch between fixations but I'm sure you can keep up. #PromoSky

Does anyone know of any #fantasy authors who have multiple series set in the same world but where they aren't specifically tied to each other aside from being in the same world?

If that makes sense. Only example I can think of is the Forgotten Realms.

Finished reading "The Reddening" last night.
4.5 stars. Loved it until the ending, which felt like a big stumble that lost momentum and went in an unsatisfying direction.

Reading "The Troop" now.

What's a #Horror trope you can't get enough of?

I love a small town or village. For me, it often adds plausibility to a story — there are countless villages and towns we don't know about until we hear a story. It makes the horror feel like something that may have happened in a real obscure place.

Born to write myriad epic fantasy sagas, eldritch tales, and superhero adventures.
Forced to bow before our corporate overlords.

Also, born with neurodivergence that makes me bounce between projects and fixations, leaving many of them unfinished for months or even years before I continue them 😅

A post just to make my stance on GenAI abundantly clear. I oppose its use in all creative pursuits. I do not use it, and will not support products or authors that use it.

I'm sure I can't be the only author who finds the concept of 2nd drafts difficult.
I want to write perfection on the first go round. It takes so long to do that, I don't want to go through the whole process a second time!

Ever create a world (or a concept for a world) in your head but then not know the story that takes place in that world — and how are you supposed to present that world to others without a story?

I'm experiencing that with a few of my ideas.

I'm not entirely sure, but based on how often I replay:

Batman: Arkham Knight

Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Dark Souls 3 (I wish I could say Bloodborne, but DS3 wins out)
Name 3 Videogames you've played for 200 hours.

A little louder for those in the back.

Keep genAI away from your books and their covers.

And ffs don't generate an image and then pay someone to "touch it up".
The "source material" is still unethical 💀

Shame on the artists selling their services to do this.

#WritingCommunity #Authors #Art
Just your periodic reminder that AI generated "art" is theft and any creative person, artist or writer, using it still needs to really re-evaluate their ethics and where they stand, cos yikes 💀

One of the great writing struggles goes thus:
Step one: Have an idea you're super excited about.

Step two: Discover you're not sure how to turn that idea into an actual story.

Step three: Stress!

Wrote a little less today. 1k on Curse of the Cachalot (cosmic horror whale and pirates), a tiny amount of planning on the secret cosy story (hitting a bit of a wall there) ...
But I did go for a walk this morning, so that sapped my energy, but it was probably good for me.

I'm fascinated by the themes and atmosphere of Silent Hill.

Know any books that would scratch that itch?

"If your computer lost half its processing power, you would call it broken. That's what's happening to [slop machine] users' brains."

Who would have thought that ceasing to use a part of your body would cause it to atrophy?

Well, not slop users, since they gave up thinking 🤷‍♀️
So it turns out that using Gen AI rots your brain. Who woulda thunk it?

As the horizon lit up with the Solstice sunrise, we hoped against hope that it was all over; that there would finally be peace. As the warm bloom painted the sky, the air filled with that familiar ear-splitting screech, and we knew the nightmare had only just begun.
