These exercises work, but a personally tailored plan will get you results even faster and keep you progressing.

Not only that, but the specific cause of YOUR problems can be properly addressed, rather than using one size fits all exercises, that don't always fix all.

As you get stronger, the starter exercises will start to feel easier, and then it is time to move on to the progressions in the video.

Eventually these will become easier too and you'll need something more.

So here are some exercises to help them that you can start today.

The best approach with these is to start slow, just a few reps to see how you do, then gradually add more and more.

Do these a few times a week for at least a month and you'll feel a big difference.

The good news? You don't have to sit this summer out.

Get working on your joints now, and you'll be ready to move pain free come summer!

Hips, knees, ankles and feet are all things which can prevent you from being as active as you'd like.

Struggling to keep up, wincing with every step, or sitting out completely just to avoid tomorrow's pain?

It can be frustrating. You feel like you're missing out, and you are!

There's so much going on that you just don't get to do or see.

These are things everyone on a rehab journey should understand.

Ever done a rehab exercise and thought, "This isn't doing anything"?

I've certainly had clients say that to me!

New science has something surprising to say about this... 🧵👇

So if an exercise doesn't feel like it is doing anything:

• Commit to it for a few weeks
• Look for improvements in strength, mobility or pain
• Then adjust if needed

Progress isn't always felt in the moment.

It's worth remembering that sometimes, we DON'T want you to feel the exercise!

Early rehab requires a delicate balance: avoid aggravating pain while driving positive change.

Overcoming fear of movement is a huge first step for many, and we don't want to scare you off!

2- We need to redefine mind-muscle connection.

Feeling a muscle work doesn't mean anything for an exercise's value.

Instead we should focus on developing good conscious control of our movements.

This is the mind-muscle connection that matters.

The study has been looked at with a muscle building lens, but we can take things from it for rehab too.

1- Trust the process, not the sensation.
Gentle rehab exercises might feel pointless, but your muscles are still working even without the "burn."

Keep going.

🔬 Recent research shared by @ challenges a common belief:

There is NO correlation between how much you "feel" a muscle working and its actual activation (measured by EMG).

This has real world implications for you if you are recovering from pain/injury.

You might see "try this, it might help" or "this is a great exercise for helping with X".

Social media thrives from big and extreme, but people thrive from nuanced and targeted approaches. Don't forget the difference.

Put this together and it's clear the path out of pain looks very different for different people.

There's no magic set of exercises that will fix everyone.

So you won't see any "do this one thing to fix your pain" videos from me.

4) These videos assume lacking strength and/or mobility are the only problem. This certainly can be a factor, but sensitivity, confidence, overall mindset, tissue elasticity and daily habits all play a role too.
April 9, 2025 at 11:25 AM
3) Lifestyle factors have a big role to play in pain and its management. Everyone lives a different life and we need to tale account of this
April 9, 2025 at 11:25 AM
2) Everyone has different levels of starting strength and mobility, so what is the perfect dose for one person would be impossible for another, and too little for another.
April 9, 2025 at 11:25 AM
There are 4 main reasons why I think these videos are a waste of time:

1) The causes of pain are complex and different for everyone. Just because you have pain in the same place, it doesn't mean it is caused by, or affected by, the same things.

We all experience pain from time to time.

Sometimes it never seems to go away.

Sometimes it changes everything.

The more we talk about physical pain, the more we make it normal to get help, which is the truly important part.

Let’s start today, because suffering in silence helps no one.

In the last few weeks people have been talking about the vulnerability Jamie Laing showed crying after completing a 5 day ultramarathon.

I have no doubt that a huge part of that was the emotional impact of pushing through

I'm also certain that he was in a lot of pain and was glad that it was over!

Some internet stoicism gurus have convinced people they should grin and bear it, suffer through the pain.

But real stoicism is about accepting what you CAN'T change, not suffering through what you CAN!

Real toughness is facing your problems, not ignoring them.

Have you ever ignored pain and regretted it later?

Let’s break the silence; drop a comment and share your experience.

The more we talk, the more we help each other.
