Andrea Welch at S&S/Beach Lane Books has bought world rights to Reach: How Humans Came to Be, a nonfiction picture book Katie Slivensky (l.), illustrated by Galia Bernstein. From our mammalian ancestors to modern times, this true-life evolutionary journey will help young readers answer one of their biggest questions: where did we come from? Publication is set for fall 2028; Ammi-Joan Paquette while at Erin Murphy Literary Agency represented the author, and Anne Moore Armstrong at Bright Agency represented the illustrator.

I've been SO pumped about this one. It is the story both my soul and my academic side has been longing to tell. I'm thrilled to work with Galia and bring this important story to life for young kids everywhere.
A Publisher's Marketplace Deal Report that reads: Katie Slivensky's REACH: HOW HUMANS CAME TO BE, tracing the true-life evolutionary journey from our mammalian ancestors through to modern times, helping young readers answer one of their biggest questions: Where did we come from?, illustrated by Galia Bernstein, to Andrea Welch at Beach Lane Books, for publication in spring 2028, by Ammi-Joan Paquette while at Erin Murphy Literary Agency for the author, and by Anne Moore Armstrong at The Bright Agency for the illustrator (world).

Doing an allergy challenge. Just took a quarter dose of ibuprofen, which put me in the ER 13 years ago.

Terrified out of my mind but assured they have epinephrine every here and we should confirm if I am still allergic.

Full dose an hour after this one if I tolerate it.

Gotta be brave!

Verdict: Still don't know what's wrong with my arm/shoulder, but they gave me a sling, some lidocaine patches, and pain medicine and told me to just see if it gets better before we try any scans. Ah, the confidence I feel after seeing a medical professional.... 🙃

The birdhouse the kids painted never found an occupant. After many rainstorms and other forces of nature, the paint was gone and the house snapped apart off the tree. But looks like on this cold November day, someone has finally decided to move in. 💚🦗

Yep, called it. Chopped six inches off today. (I cut my own hair and have for years.) Not bad! I call this, "Feeling cute, might do some haircut touch ups tomorrow after sleeping on it".

My 4yo tried to pull down one of our Halloween wall cling decorations and accidentally tore it. He put the pieces on the floor. Which obviously became the seat of choice for our cat.

Anyway, now it just looks like our cat gruesomely slaughtered a cheerful, friendly ghost.

Helping our 4yo gain art confidence has been hard. He wants it to look like what it "should" sooo bad.

But today at the MFA he did a watercolor activity and lit up when the staff offered a frame for it. They asked him what it was called.

Got to see @brianlies.bsky.social today for the first time in 8 years!

He did a truly fantastic presentation at the MFA in Boston for his newest book, CAT NAP, which I am describing everywhere as not just a work of art, but *works* of art, plural. Stunningly creative, and totally captivated my 4yo!

Our jack-o'-lanterns! A couple spooky ones, and a couple literary ones! The 4yo wanted a ghost (which I did for him), and also helped his dad carve a big scary face. The 10yo carved his own dragon from the Wings of Fire series! And finally, I did the nerdy thing and carved Rock from I, ROCK. 😆

This was an incredible exhibit to see! We were there in August and both our kids loved it!
