Trying to better manage my media diet.
No I do not want to see pictures of the flesh eating screw worm.
Yes I do want to see pictures of Taylor’s ring.

Many of my students have been National Guard and they are smart, effective, motivated folks happy to be earning an education (often the first in their families to go to college). They are doing their best.

Remember that most of the people in the National Guard want nothing to do with this and are, in fact, probably pretty pissed off that their governor ripped them away from their normal lives to do security theater miles away from home.
For the first time I've seen, National Guard outside the Library of Congress this morning.

They are unarmed and look incredibly bored.

Notes from a Subaru dealer: As Neil Young’s plays over the loudspeaker, folks in Birkenstocks and Keens watch non traditional families drive over mountain passes and dogs surf. These are my people now.

Honest question: Is it okay to shop at Costco during the economic blackout today? I’m happy to support the company and unhappy about having to go on a Saturday.

Three new manuscripts have come to me through the editorial system in the last 6 hours, which means six have be submitted to the journal (they are split between our two Eds in Chief). WTH, people. It’s 12/27. Why are you submitting papers today? Can’t it wait until the new year?

I have about 10,000 words of my book written. So far I have said very little and possibly all I know about blame and punishment.

My hot yoga instructor this morning was about 18 and I think this was her first class. She kept forgetting to do the left side in our series. I swear that I’m actually off balance now. If I fall off my chair whilst writing it’s on her.

Today’s observation: if I write 1,000 words five days a week I should be done with this book in about three and a half months. No problem.
