I have recently been thinking about whether deep self views can help with some of the tricky issues surrounding autonomy and responsibility in the context of mental I'll health. My pessimistic preliminary conclusion is No. I'll be presenting on this on Friday.

Nothing remotely resembling an insurrection is happening anywhere in the country. Any violence associated with protest has been isolated, mild, and, in nearly every case, instigated by federal law enforcement. If we let Trump get away with calling dissent an insurrection, our republic is over.

This week, we did instrumentalist accounts of moral responsibility. First Smart, then chapter 6 of @unfilosofo.bsky.social 's BBB. I felt I kept complicating things for students by introducing further wrinkles. Real selves next week.
