Now that I am dealing with Russian opposition I can see this clearly: I grew up in the west, I look like a Russian, I sound like a Russian when I speak Russian, but our perception of the world and values can be drastically different. And I had to discover it in pretty harsh ways.

My twitter was heavily Russian. It happened mostly because I started it to go to protests in 2011-12. It was an effective way to know where to go, where police was squeezing people out or chasing them. They didn’t beat up and arrest people then, but you could feel it hanging in the air.

Today I celebrate my birthday. And I have a wish - for them to go away.
