This is why strategies that focus exclusively on material conditions (or protecting democratic institutions) often fail to break through. People have to be convinced that they do not deserve oppression and neither does anyone else.

If there is a beginning point to unraveling this, I think it lies in not assuming you can just ~discourse~ your way to getting ppl to have the scales fall from their eyes & vote how they "should" & I think that a large part of "how do we fix politics rn" operates from that fallacious belief.
