If there is a beginning point to unraveling this, I think it lies in not assuming you can just ~discourse~ your way to getting ppl to have the scales fall from their eyes & vote how they "should" & I think that a large part of "how do we fix politics rn" operates from that fallacious belief.

Historians are trained to see feudalism through the lens of power imbalances. But what if it's simply that the (expected) return from owning land and having peasants farm it is greater than the amount you allow those peasants to keep?

The reason this is effective is that a lot of people are genuinely committed to knowing the difference between right and wrong and want to do the right thing. Sophistry tells them their ability to discern right from wrong is inadequate; it tells them to distrust their own moral compass.

I completely agree with the underlying assumption that rural Republicans are far more Progressive than their voting track lead you to believe. It's literally my whole job. However I think we have to tackle the brand issue of Democrats head on and relocalize politics, the right will use the same
