Writing about civics and government; making things; dad & husband. Working with my brother on a documentary about American teachers. Yes, I did write all those Crashcourse history videos for John Green.
Move the World Cup to Norway, Sweden, and Denmark. I'll be lit, and the weather will be way better than Miami in June and July.

I bet that these ICEholes listen to "Police Truck" for inspiration.

I hope that not a single business anywhere lets ICE goons use their bathrooms. Make these f*cks sh*t their pants.

There are a bunch of Republican senators who could go down as historic heroes (and save lives and preserve the economy and international order) by voting to convict Trump of abuse of power. What he's doing is so much worse than Nixon.

Glad to see my congressman has his finger on the pulse of the nation:

Don't forget, the GOP has been saying for DECADES that Black and Brown people from America and elsewhere want to murder you and they've labeled Democrats as murderers for their (slightly less brutal) stance on crime. Who is being "soft" on murderers now?

There are some days that I wish I were religious and believed that certain individuals would burn in hell for all eternity.

"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States." -- can anyone reasonably say DJT has fulfilled the promise of his oath? Congress?

Not nearly the most important takeaway from Trump's mad admission that he needs to own things to feel alive, but he doesn't seem to understand that without pieces of paper you don't own anything. Absent legal title and a legal system, anyone stronger than you can make what's "yours" theirs.

We need new laws that codify what counts as self defense for law officers. The presumption should be that force, especially gunshots, should only be used after every alternative has been exhausted. If a cop can move to avoid injury, he should not be able to claim self defense, full stop.

If you live in either of the Dakotas, Alaska, Montana, Wyoming, (or Vermont and Delaware) Call your single at large representative and tell them to vote against the bloodthirsty tyrants running this country. And if they don’t, vote them out in November.

Unsolicited advice to parents and teachers of HS aged students in Minneapolis: Since your kids are home, gather together and watch Eyes on the Prize, season 1, episode 4. Have a discussion with them about why so many of the protesters in Birmingham were high schoolers. Read MLK's "letter from ..."

To update Ronald Reagan for the Trump Era:

"I'm from the government and I'm here to kill you."

If you’re a teacher and dealing with the murder of Renee Good in your classes, I’d like to hear about what you are doing and how you are holding up.

I have never been more relieved not to have to face a class full of teenagers than I am right now.

In defending the murderous ICE agent, the President has violated his constitutional duty to take care that the laws be faithfully executed. Luckily, there is a constitutional remedy if only congress would use it.

I hate using gendered insults but sometimes more polite language isn't sufficient. Every single Democrat running for office against a sitting Republican should be hammering them for being a b***h-a** coward, for sucking up to Trump. You can replace "coward" with another insult starting with "p"

maybe someone should show Trump a globe instead of a map so he has a better sense of Greenland's size. Failing that, show him this one:
January 7, 2026 at 4:42 PM
You know what would put a stop to this Greenland nonsense and (possibly) help congresspeople up for election? Impeachment. If your congressperson isn't willing to take a stand against this abuse of power, they don't deserve your vote.

I’m really tired of hearing about this so-called decline of “Western” dominance. European kingdoms/nations only became “dominant” after 1850. The U.S. with its constitutional limitations lasted longer than this age of Western hegemony. Learn some Chinese and Indian history ffs.

I’m curious, when do you think everything went to shit in the U.S.? I think it was 1976, when Reagan made his first run for the presidency and the tide began to turn in favor of deregulation of everything.

History reminder: the second proposed article of impeachment against Nixon was a charge that he abused his power by using federal agencies to harass political enemies.

Abuse of power is an impeachable offense.

Once again, I am begging someone with more influence than I have to make Americans understand what fraud is. It's essence is knowingly lying for personal gain.

Quick historical reminder: Hitler invaded Poland and later Russia in order to seize their resources, arable land and oil. The U.S. (eventually) stepped up to defeat him and to try to create a world in which that sort of imperial behavior and the destruction it creates would not be tolerated.
