Three of Trump’s most controversial nominees were on Capitol Hill yesterday, and their hearings were anything but smooth. But will that be enough to derail any of them? Maaaaaybe. open.substack.com/pub/statusku...

This is what the government did with 120K+ Japanese Americans in 1942.

I know. I was there in those camps.

Not a great sign of things to come on this front.
CDC’s clinical guidelines for PrEP — which all but eliminates HIV risk — have been removed from CDC’s website. This is what you get when you search.

Expanding PrEP access is essential to end HIV infections.

They want people to get HIV as some sort of punishment for being immoral.

Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker blocks Jan. 6 rioters from state jobs after Trump pardons.

In a written directive, the Democratic Illinois governor tells his hiring office that "no one who attempts to overthrow a government should serve in government."

“Don’t feed the trolls” also extends to bad opinion pieces in papers of record.

They run them bc people react to them the most.

If we stop linking to bad columns and instead post thinkers we find valuable (& generate convo around it), incentives change.

It’s not easy and takes constant practice!

The Trumpists won’t be able to implement everything they have planned exactly as they have planned it. But they are better prepared and in a far better position overall than they were in 2017.

More malevolent, less incompetent, with a weaker system to oppose them.

Why the Second Trump Regime Will Be Far More Dangerous
This will be a much more radical regime – and it will operate under conditions that are vastly more favorable to its extremist cause

Pete Hegseth’s tattoos are the ones that white nationalists get. Federal law enforcement know these symbols well. Hegseth was banned from national guard duty at Biden’s inauguration for those tattoos. The Senate should consider this disqualifying for a nominee for Secretary of Defense—will they?

Trump vetted Hegseth in 2017; past allegations came up and scuttled a VA nom. This time Trump axed the normal vetting processes, hired a private firm, didn’t wait for a report, selected Hegseth. Now his team says it was blindsided. Uh, no—it got caught. This is why media needs curatorial journalism.

The first rule of authoritarian politics is that there’s only one source of authority.

Congress will be expected to give up its role in governing, particularly anything that restrains Trump’s choices and desires.
