“Who is a good dog? Otro Perro Bonito is a good dog!” I have driven past the Garland shelter billboard featuring this pup this week several times, and I can’t help but smile a bit. Hope he finds a good home soon where someone needs an Otro Perro Bonito. 💕 #adoptdontshop #dogsofbluesky

“It’s amazing that others in this room underwrote electing a man who, in the last week, single-handedly destroyed all of American science. It’s amazing how much good science you can destroy with $320 million and RFK Jr, very fast.”

Constituents to Chuck Grassley: "Are you bringing back that guy from El Salvador?"

Senior Citizen: “If I get an order to pay a ticket to pay $1200 and I just say ‘no’, does that stand up? Because he just got an order from the Supreme Court and he just said ‘screw it’”

This feels like the defining image from this year’s Midwest Political Science Association annual meeting.

The National Science Foundatipn paid for a booth in the exhibit hall. But the booth sits empty, because NSF has been DOGE’d, and there is no one left to send.

So, Rand Paul, you are saying that, if we play our cards right, when this is over we will get universal healthcare in our “new new deal”? #Tariffs #Trumponomics

The milkweeds that germinated and then survived a toddler accident 🙃 I’m looking forward to getting them out in their new home in the yard soon!

Even though things aren’t pretty in this country right now, I can say that I’m proud of the kind little person I’m raising. (Yes he had a lot of help writing 😆)

Gardening experiments: I set up a shop light as a grow light, and everything except echinacea and strawberries seems to have worked? I am also experimenting with some outdoor grow lights as the trees are now shading a bit. We shall see how it goes!

From Böckenförde State, Society, and Liberty (1991).
TLDR: Individual liberty requires social services in the modern state, and the state provides these services to “keep society from destroying itself.”
Feels relevant this morning.

I’m trying yet again to see if I can’t get some milkweed going. So many things are a mess in the world, but I can put down some native plants and foster biodiversity in my own backyard.

I think Texas is as close to a crystal ball for the next four years in the US as one can get. There is deep irony that the party against “identity politics” mows down anyone who steps out of the narrow political identity they’ve created for themselves: thehill.com/homenews/cam...

The inconvenience of convenience: I ordered six bananas. A while ago, I thought I ordered a bag of Brussel sprouts only to find a random lonely Brussel sprout at the bottom of a bag of carrots a few days later.

In the tug-of-war about the direction of the Democratic party, why are Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema not being brought up? Here are two supposed centrists who proudly sank Biden’s agenda including a bill that would have made American lives tangibly better. Perhaps some lessons lie there.

Every few weeks, I ask my three year old if he is a boy or girl since I am curious about his understanding of gender.
Me: E, are you a boy or a girl?
E: I’m a friend.
Best answer yet. 🥹
