What concerns me most with today isn't necessarily current state of operational forecasting at NWS, but the future state of op forecasting. This is discouraging to a lot of students in the met pipeline. Gov jobs were already highly competitive. I fear many will change majors. We lose future talent.

Wherever possible please buy your books directly from authors and/or publishers. Even ebooks (then Amazon can't delete them either). We make a better cut and you get the same thing or better, plus Bezos and ilk don't get richer. Win win win.

Old friend just laid off by USDA, 1 mos short of his probationary period as senior researcher. Brilliant person who left a tenured faculty position several yrs ago to join USDA. Bright early-career researchers also being laid off. USDA is terminating a generation of highly-qualified scientists.
