What's interesting is that if I'm reading the article right, Netflix nets none of that money, which is all in concession vouchers the theaters used in lieu of tickets. Anecdotally, the theater I went to yesterday was PACKED.

I think the consensus views on this are in strongest agreement between folks who are highly educated and all in very progressive, very fluent environments. I think some of the social norms around how to communicate this stuff are less resonant outside of that small cohort. And may be less effective.
