I’ve noticed Apple News on my iPhone is showing me stories that are weeks or months old recently… that is odd behavior.

If this keeps up, News+ might not be worth paying for anymore, which sucks because it gives me access to so many different publications.

I run every account on my PDS 😭
pro tip: if you’ve just migrated to a new PDS, this feed is the best way to your neighbors on the same server: bsky.app/profile/did:...

The only reason Kentucky doesn’t slide into Tennessee is because Indiana sucks.

Yes, I am watching a football game why do you ask

I (mostly) remediated this issue with one of my neighbors by writing a little software tool that can identify the telephone company incoming calls are coming from and sending calls from VoIP services to a "number not in service" message.

It shouldn't take that much effort.
I wrote this for the @nytimes.com: Scammers are calling seniors more than 50 times a day. Some who get scammed wind up with weird charges on their Medicare and mysterious packages on their porches

Happy “dodge huge chunks of ice flying from the cars of people too lazy to clear all the snow off” season to those who celebrate

Had my annual physical this morning where my doctor proceeded to turn me into a pincushion. Flu shot in one arm, covid booster in the other, and routine lab work.

I might be biased, but she’s the GOAT.

One of the radio stations I work for is currently playing that Toby Keith “boot in your ass” song and I think it has taken on new meaning for me.

Ken Martin used the phrase “all gas, no brakes” in his statement tonight and I think that is an infinitely better 2026-28 slogan than “strong floor, no ceiling”

Does Mike Johnson know what to do if you’re at the beach and the tide suddenly goes away? I think we’re all about to find out. 🍿🍿

I just unpinned every feed except Following.

I need to get back to a mostly offline state. I had some good discussions, but seeing some of the worst takes on the internet hasn't helped my blood pressure - and that was with an algorithm that didn't have some broligarch's thumb on the scale. (1/6)

My hypothesis: people writ large simultaneously despise advertising and refuse to pay for newspaper* subscriptions, and journalists still have to pay their bills somehow.

Many of them indeed chose the worst way to do it, but we kind of did this to ourselves.

Thanks for holding that nugget until now, Jonathan! I hope your book sells negative copies.

Yes and: Lots of red state libertarians despised the REAL ID Act (which was passed in 2005) and successfully got many of those same states to delay or refuse implementation with the “national ID card” bogeyman and look where it got us. DHS even postponed the requirement multiple times.
I know everyone hates the TSA and their DMV but we've had like 20 year warning on real ID. I think I've replaced my passport once since Michigan started issuing enhanced licenses (which I've never had to get because of said passport).

Meteorology is basically the science of predicting how air interacts with air. The various properties of those pockets of air cause different things to happen when they move. It’s absolutely nuts.
meteorologists are braver than the troops for learning how this shit works

Here it is. The genAI boosters are counting on the general public NOT KNOWING THE DIFFERENCE between the plagiarism machine they’re trying to sell as literally God while the immensely useful ML technology that might actually save millions gets caught in the crossfire.
part of the reason i am genuinely irritated with the gAI/AGI cult is because there is real societal benefits in using ML techniques in medical care + weather analysis, and instead people get annoyed with anything that gets lumped in with the plagiarism machine
We could save soooo many lives but people are so caught up in their reactionary moral panic nonsense
