After reading a bunch of the Epstein emails over the last few days, this makes total sense.
after reading how all these rich folks write i think i understand why they believe everyone else needs a chatbot to write everything from emails and text message to novels

For a recent scary story night, I decided to explore a setting that had been rattling around in my head for a while. REM State is unrelated to The Bell Forging Cycle, but it shares a similar DNA. I like massive cities and weird creatures, what can I say? I don't write short stories all that often, but instead of filing this one away and forgetting about it, I figured it'd be fun to release it.

Uly Pupdate: Summer 2025
He's now a year and a half old, and we've had a significant summer! Uly got fixed in June, and as is common in large breeds, he also underwent a gastropexy to prevent GDV. As a result, the beginning of the summer was a bit slow. We did get him a little suit to keep him from picking at his sutures, and as a benefit, it made him look like a little man from the turn of the century, about to go for a swim and an egg cream at the beach.

"Listers: A Glimpse Into Extreme Birdwatching" might be one of the best movies I've seen this year, and for some reason, it's not on Letterboxd. Seriously... watch it:

The Smoker Paddock

Every day, I have someone emailing asking where I've been for the last month or so. (That's not true, but it's a good way to start my first post in nearly a month.) Well, I have been busy! For a while now, Kari-Lise and I have spent any free time hard at work building out a…

For a while now, Kari-Lise and I have spent any free time hard at work building out a patio/gazebo/outdoor cooking space/chef's garden that I am calling our Smoker Paddock.

Business cards, yes! Manuscript, no! Also "networking" is just about getting to meet people! Tell people about your work if they ask! Keep it really short if they do! If they don't bring it up, just be a cool human they can know! If an agent/editor says "send me work," do it when you get home!
@scalzi.com hello! I am going to Worldcon this week in the hopes of networking (I’m doing one of the meetups) to shop my manuscript. I have no one in my circle I can ask this question: what should I bring? I figure business cards and… 10 copies of my first 30 pages?

As one of the concerned Alexanders mentioned in the post below, I have purchased Jason's new book, which I will read and determine from there if I am safe. 😉
My novella We Who Hunt Alexanders is now out in the world. To all the people named Alex and Alexander who expressed concerns on if the monsters in my book would be hunting them down, I want to officially state there's no reason to worry. 1/ www.apexbookcompany.com/products/we-...
We Who Hunt Alexanders - Apex Book Company
WE WHO HUNT ALEXANDERS by Jason Sanford is a dark, cosmic novella following a neurodivergent main character in a gothic, dangerous world.

Should I be concerned about the title and content of this book? ;)
My Big Idea essay on @scalzi.com's Whatever blog discusses why I wrote about a neurodiverse main character in my new novella We Who Hunt Alexanders.

Hint: In fiction, the mask comes off. As someone on the spectrum and with ADHD, I mean that literally. whatever.scalzi.com/2025/07/23/t...

Creativity Within Stillness
When we moved to the island, Uly was still a young puppy. So, when I began taking him for walks around the area, I usually found myself going without earbuds or headphones. Initially, I did this so I could listen for approaching vehicles, other dogs, mountain bikers, or general hazards a big, silly puppy might be oblivious to. However, as time passed, I found myself increasingly relishing those moments of mental stillness.
