I said it before, will say it again -- generative AI fetishizes "ideas" while sneering at effort, execution, and education. That, despite Gen-AI being built on and out of other people's effort, execution and education.
A.I. and the Fetishization Of Ideas
In writing and in dispensing my (very dubious, probably shady) writing advice, I am often keen to note that ideas are bullshit. Most writers treat them like precious gems when really, ideas are lik…

“How billionaires took over American politics”

The concentration of wealth among the richest Americans is unlike anything in history — and so is billionaires’ influence in politics.

The USA has over 342 million people.
Only 902 billionaires.
It's when we say it's over.

A great deal of AI hype is coming from con artists who understand exactly how much easier it’s going to be to use the same cons over and over once they achieve their dream of a world in which nobody understands how anything 1) works or 2) has ever worked.

Or, more likely, pay-to-play.
Trump is bragging about a deal that lets China buy NVIDIA’s advanced H200 chips, which Biden restricted for national security reasons. He is giving Beijing access to cutting-edge U.S. AI hardware, then trying to spin it as strength. It looks a lot more like caving.

NVIDIA chips are used by the U.S. military for defense research, sensor processing, robotics, and DARPA projects that depend on high performance AI. And now the White House wants to hand that tech to China to fix the soybean crisis their own tariff war created.

This is a big deal. Essentially a reversal of the US export control policy on advanced chips. Possibly decisive in the AI race. Compute is our main advantage — China has more power, engineers, and the entire edge layer — so by giving this up we increase the odds the world runs on Chinese AI.

Trump is sending the most advanced US-made AI chips to China.

Putin absolutely loves Trump's new National Security Strategy.

Trump pardoned a Central American strongman who smuggled 400 tons of cocaine into the USA.

This is NOT America first. It is Trump first and his dictator buddies next.

China is far behind the US in AI chips, and the House committee warns that selling NVIDIA’s H200 to China would help Beijing close that gap. They say China would use the chips for military and surveillance power, then rip off the tech and mass produce it to undermine Nvidia.

If we had a functioning Congress, they would step in and stop Trump’s deal allowing China to buy advanced AI chips from NVIDIA — but this version of the Republican Party is fucking worthless.

Trump allowing NVIDIA to sell advanced AI chips to China is an extremely dangerous thing to do. These chips are dramatically more powerful than anything China currently has and will destroy our computing edge. Just a stupid, ignorant, greedy move from the dumbest man in America.

The reason we don’t sell H200, and other advanced chips to China is that they have dual-use (military and civilian) capability.

These will help China improve their AI, surveillance, and cyber espionage capability.

The export controls existed strictly for NatSec purposes.

Trump is letting NVIDIA export cutting-edge AI chips that his own DOJ revealed are being illegally smuggled into China.

His own DOJ called these chips "building blocks of AI superiority."

Trump and Lutnick need to answer to Congress on why they are selling out US security.
