I am reading a victorian romance book by an obviously American author.
1) we don't have 'city blocks' over here.
2) the hero (its a reverse My Fair Lady trope, BTW) is a Cornish/Cockney mix, which, when the author renders it phonetically, is in some bastard form of Dick Van Dyke-ian.
