With this vote, Congress makes ICE the highest-funded federal law enforcement agency in history, with more money per year at its disposal over the next four years than the budgets of the FBI, DEA, ATF, US Marshals, and Bureau of Prisons combined.

First votes of the day underway in the House. This is an attendance test - weather in DC cancelled a lot of flights, many members haven't been able to get back to town.

Johnson admits they don't have the votes for the rule on the MAGA murder budget yet. Fox reporting at least 12 GOP nos right now.
- Up to 30 House Republicans making angry noises (see list from Haley Talbot). Republicans lose a maximum of 3 if everyone votes. It is of course worth remembering that literally all these folks made angry noises the first time they passed the budget, too, and all but two quietly voted yes.

@booker.senate.gov didn’t just “talk” for a record setting amount of time. He made speeches, taught lessons, he inspired and informed. This is just incredibly impressive work from the senator, his staff, and the colleagues who helped.
The bar’s been raised Democrats. Keep it going.

They tell you to “tighten your belt” while $21 trillion has gone “missing” from the Pentagon’s budget since 1998.

Imagine if welfare recipients lost even $21—they’d be called criminals.

This strikes me as rhetorically and analytically useful - the constitutional crisis built over decades (from backlash to civil rights through Iran Contra, 2000 election, Trump 1, etc) but now it’s happened and the constitution is close to a dead letter, flatlining as @vermontgmg.bsky.social says.
We're living through not a "constitutional crisis" but a "constitutional crash" — the sudden, ER-style flatlining of the healthy biorhythms of our 249-year-old constitutional order. Our national system is dead on the table—can it be shocked back to life? www.doomsdayscenario.co/p/america-s-...

When Donald Trump lawlessly went after ordinary Americans, Chief Justice John Roberts didn't care.

But now that Trump is taking aim at Roberts' fellow judges, Roberts suddenly cares.

It's always the same with conservatives, they don't care until something affects them.
