My family has been without half our income for 40 days. It has been.. very hard.

We are willing to feel that pain so people can have health care next year, or to undo these illegal recissions.

We are not willing to have been put through this for NOTHING.

i think this is key. taking the deal would amount to taking the blame. it would turn a clear political victory into an unambiguous defeat.
If the Dems blink after all of this, for a deal that all but ensures no ACA subsidies in 2026 anyway, then what was the purpose of letting the shutdown go for 40 days in the first place?

The average SNAP benefit per month is $177 a person.

The average ACA benefit per month is up to $550 a person.

People want us to hold the line for a reason. This is not a matter of appealing to a base. It’s about people’s lives.

And working people want leaders whose word means something to them.

How about we shut down the government for this very popular and specific goal and then, hear me out, we hold out for like a month and a half and then, ok this part is important, after a watershed election where we ran the table, ONLY THEN, fold and don't get the one thing we said we wanted.

There is a gulf in America. I submit it is the gulf between good and evil, or at least not-evil and evil.

The gulf is not just between people who oppose this and people who are indifferent to it or reluctantly accept it in support of immigration policy or see it as collateral damage.

This raid is disgusting, abominable behavior, traumatizing children and families in their homes.

Just spitballing here, but if you’re upset about being called fascist and insist you aren’t a fascist, signing an EO that makes being anti-fascist “domestic terrorism” doesn’t help your case.

Fascist governments are well known for their legal wrangling that ends up with them losing in court and having to return a guy from El Salvador

But if you’d rather just give up and say “too late, it’s fascism” have at it
There are literally masked men jumping out of cars disappearing BIPOC folks with no due process and you're saying this ain't emergent fascism? I suppose you didn't self identify with the recent domestic terror EO. Don't worry Tom they'll come for you too eventually. Just a matter of time.
