This chimes with what I remember and experience of Ohio, right down to themes of and anecdotes about local news and social mobility that I tried to handle in "On Freedom." The essay is wonderful and I am liking forward to reading "Paper Girl."

American parents, please ignore Trump’s recent reiteration of nonsense about Tylenol and vaccines, as well as anything the man ever says about the health of your children. Please talk with your medical professionals.

The Trump admin’s USDA issued new guidance stating it will not use existing funds to cover SNAP benefits if the government shutdown extends beyond October 31. This move effectively threatens to withhold billions of dollars in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) contingency funding

It "took time". I highly doubt we ever will be what Auschwitz became. But pay attention America. It is a slippery slope that can surprise you as the steps increase in that direction, and many bad things can happen along the way.

Learn from history so that we don't repeat it.
Auschwitz was at the end of a long process. It did not start from gas chambers.

This hatred was gradually developed by humans. From ideas, words, stereotypes & prejudice through legal exclusion, dehumanization & escalating violence... to systematic and industrial murder.

Auschwitz took time.
