Bell is absolutely right to point out that we must remember the past while continuing to speak about the present. I'm in Ukraine at the moment and the resilience and bravery of the people here is extraordinary, it's something I will never forget.
Today, as we remember lives lost to war, we must keep speaking out against the horrors unfolding in Sudan, Gaza, Congo, Ukraine and everywhere conflict continues.

True remembrance requires us to speak up for peace and insist that every human life is of equal value.

A month ago, a delegation from Scottish branches of public sector union UNISON visited Kharkiv and Kyiv to meet trade unionists and others, and take aid and solidarity. On Monday they'll be reporting back (online) - register to join.

It was an honour to attend the @ilgaeurope.bsky.social 2025 Conference on behalf of UNISON London LGBT+ Ctte - There's much to be worried about in the world at the moment, but it was also good to reflect on some of the victories our community has achieved over the last year despite huge challenges!

For this, and many other reasons, I'm supporting Bell for Deputy Leader. While trade unions have been generally supportive of the ERB, members have also been clear that it doesn't go far enough. Bell is the best candidate to be the voice we need at the top of the Labour Party.
The Employment Rights Bill is a major achievement, but it doesn’t go far enough.

Working people did not vote for half-measures or delayed change.

To complete the task, Labour must commit to a second Employment Rights Bill.
We need a second employment rights bill
The Employment Rights Bill deserves recognition, but it does not go far enough.

The idea that Mandelson can stay in post is ridiculous and I fail to understand why this is dragging on. The fact the association continued after Epstein's conviction should be the end of the discussion. Big questions then remain about the vetting process which allowed this past.

I'm one of the 700 so far. Let's be honest, Labour has a lot to do to rebuild our trust. I've debated ending my membership many times, and I understand why people have. But I do want to try and build a vision of hope, as a principled Left, for meaningful change.
We’re blown away by the response to Mainstream so far: thank you to everyone who’s joined us.

Labour's Mainstream is rising.

If you haven’t signed up yet, now’s the time.

I have to say, I'm (cautiously) optimistic about this. I truly hope that this becomes an effective, democratic platform for those of us on the Left to organise around. Especially when we have felt completely abandoned by Labour and left without a political "home".
Mainstream is the new home for Labour's radical realists.

For everyone who knows that to transform the country and take on the populist right, Labour must offer a popular, principled and practical left politics for meaningful change.

This is a national scandal caused by Wes Streeting. Months of anxiety for ICB staff, and we still have no idea who will have a job if / when this process can actually start. Our ICB's leadership team has been exceptional despite the mass uncertainty caused by this government.
In March NHS England's new boss ordered boards to cut staff costs in half by December.

But now integrated care boards are delaying redundancy processes because the Treasury has refused to fund lay-offs.

I have no doubt that, with Andrea Egan, UNISON will continue to evolve into the member led union we desperately need. Andrea will champion our union's democratically decided values and deliver for all of our Equalities groups.

This must not happen. The UK must immediately and unconditionally recognise the state of Palestine. There needs to be further sanctions on ultra-nationalists, and a total end of arm sales to Israel (i.e. those still continuing via indirect means etc).

Great to hear this result! The NHS and the rest of the healthcare sector is uniting behind the idea that we cannot be taken for granted any more. You clapped for us during Covid, we will be asking for your support once again if we need to take industrial action to save our NHS.

How many more condemnations must we all make before our governments act to stop this genocide? The immediate need is for a ceasefire and aid, but in the long-term there must be consequences for those who carried out these war crimes and those who were complicit in them.
UNISON utterly condemns the continued military assault and bombardment of Gaza.

Israeli government plans to force the population of Gaza into a deportation camp built on the ruins of southern Gaza can only be understood as ethnic cleansing.

The scale of the planned NHS cuts is enormous and still not being talked about enough.

Regional / National NHS Teams: 50% job cuts + merger in to DHSC

ICBs: 50% cut to operating costs + mergers = >50% job cuts?

NHS trusts: ~5% budget cuts = >10% job cuts?

Jenny's letter is absolutely spot on, our union needs to take a stronger stance of solidarity with Trans, Non-Binary, and Gender Diverse people. Not just because many of us are UNISON members, but because it's the right thing to do.
Over 500 Unison members have signed a letter showing their dissatisfaction with Unison leadership over their initial statement following the Supreme Court Ruling

Watching Labour (and presumably the Conservatives) slowly roll towards Reform victories, partially through their complete inability to be self-critical and engage with a wide spectrum of views within the party, has a terrifying inevitability to it.
