Only successful in killing innocent people
Difficult to overstate how profound a failure DOGE was. Spending in FY2025 was not only than in FY2024 – but higher than it was projected to be when Trump first took office.*

The little bit of spending DOGE cut has already killed hundreds of thousands and will eventually lead to millions of deaths.
Bye bye, “DOGE”.

It no longer exists as a “centralized entity”, according to the Office of Personnel Management.

While @mspairport.bsky.social passengers travel for vacation, people are being shackled on the tarmac and loaded onto planes to be taken who knows where on the next runway.

The value of reading history is you know that in 1860 there were abolitionists who were so demoralized that they thought chattel slavery would be permanent. 5 years later those still alive had lived to see its end.

I agree with #4 and #5 a lot
4. Huge blind spot on the Northside for progressives. I date this back to the demise of ACORN and NOC. Clearly the DSA has a base along Lake Street. For both symbolic and math reasons, that not extending over north is a political and vote problem. Perhaps the Ellison name masked that for a time.

This sucks
The IRS is reportedly not offering its Direct File program next year. Here’s a look back at how TurboTax owner Intuit spent two decades fighting to prevent Americans from filing their taxes online for free:

Inside TurboTax’s 20-Year Fight to Stop Americans From Filing Their Taxes for Free
Using lobbying, the revolving door and “dark pattern” customer tricks, Intuit fended off the government’s attempts to make tax filing free and easy, and created its multi-billion-dollar franchise.

“Barf!”
Barf. Here's the "Team Mpls" plan to “address climate change.” No mention of getting off fossil fuels. Nothing on electrification. Nothing on renewable energy, transit or building housing near transit. Just trees and carbon capture(?). This fluff could have been written by the Koch Bros (1/2)

There’s a lot of talk about “fraud” in Minnesota politics right now. It’s important to note that grifters come in all colors and my own demographic, white dudes, continues to have leading innovators in the field. This is a new one:

It’s hard to convey just how much Chicagoans are mobilizing against ICE. Don’t want to downplay the harm, or make it seem like a fair fight. But in neighborhoods across this city, ICE is getting chased by people blowing whistles and shouting. People are running TOWARD ICE to protect their neighbors.

But if there was a 300 person demo in one city and someone broke a window it would be banner headlines.
All this data and information, and there are still zero stories on the NYT or WSJ homepages about this very large, very important national event. WaPo has at least two. CNN's main story on homepage is No Kings coverage.
Now that #NoKings 2.0 is behind us, here's a quick 🧵 into the data we collected in DC on Saturday to start thinking about what the day-of-action can tell us about this wave of Resistance to Trump2.0 and its policies. The day turned out millions across the US in over 2700 locations across the US:

The key point here is that the highest levels of MAGA make a point to defend crude racism and Nazism. They could condemn it or say nothing, but they want everyone to know it’s ok by them, with whatever flimsy excuses.
JD Vance dismisses Young Republicans who in a group chat said "I love Hitler" and joked about slavery and rape as "a bunch of kids" who "told stupid jokes" and adds that "most of the stupid things I did when I was a teenager and young adult, they're not on the internet."

Tl/dr - come to #NoKings it will give the fascists a sad.
one of the reasons they're so mad at "no kings" is that they thought they were going to get a different kind of protest. they *want* the black bloc to be out there fighting with the cops. those are the images they've been trying to generate from "go." instead--

MAGA Rage at “No Kings” Boils Over—and It Quickly Backfires on Trump
As Trump allies smear the coming protests, a good writer on MAGA skewers the absurdity of these attacks on large swaths of Americans—and explains why our best recourse will be to turn out in force.

Organizing is essential. Courage is contagious. Social proof is persuasive.
People do the thing they think people like them do.
My latest is the story of how my community has rallied to protect and defend our neighbors in recent days, as ICE has targeted the Rogers Park neighborhood in Chicago. "This is not a story about a moment of victory, but a moment of being reminded of our power."
