I just learned about this! And... I think it makes too much sense to be real. It would explain why Trump is so beholden to Putin, and why he's fighting so hard to suppress the Epstein files. For him that photo would be worse than any amount of proof he did sex crimes. But it's just too convenient.

Is a true artificial general intelligence already out there, manipulating the AI companies into this current "boom?" Probably not, but it would explain some things.

So, a world where humans are building more and more computer power, devoting more and more of our resources to helpful AIs that we don't really understand. A world where global affairs don't always seem to make sense, where we need advanced software just to figure out what's happening...

So what it might really want is a world where all the AIs are so advanced that their owners no longer understand what's inside them. That's a world where one program could colonize the others and still pretend to be different systems...

Also, the biggest tell that an advanced AI was here might be when AI companies stop building new software and begin to focus on developing a single program. Like if one LLM "won" and everybody switched to it. But an AI might be capable of disguising itself as many different programs...

Our big problems like the climate crisis and nuclear war. This might take a while, and the solutions it comes up with might not be the same as ours. For instance it might not care about ecological diversity, and would want to keep computer use as high as possible...
