You have to defend each other.
You have to fight.
So they gave up just like Trump wanted, and got nothing. All that suffering for nothing.

So I left the leaves in piles, put all my stuff away, ran back inside, got the candy and turned on the porchlight.
Now it's been half an hour and not a soul out there. Sigh..

If I wanted a return to the good old days, it'd be to a time you could make a good living writing short stories...
I saw Kickboxer (from 1989) tonight, starring Jean-Claude Van Damme. Quite a change from the film noirs!
It's cheesy but also awesome. For an 80's kid this movie goes down like Pringles - you know it's not real life but every moment is so fun. And Van Damme's physicality is incredible.

I just saw Laura from 1944. Now this is a great film! A much better film noir than Gilda, and a great mystery. It really makes you think, and just when you figure you've solved it the plot twists and throws everything into confusion. Definitely my kind of mystery. The whole cast is great.

It ended well. I scooped out the awful stuffing, then fabricated the turkey, breaking it up into parts. Then I vacuum sealed most of it and left enough for a Thanksgiving meal.
Now I can cook three more meals from the bird, plus the bones for soup.
Hope you all enjoyed your holiday.

Now I've got to cook the turkey. I'm a little late, but it's particularly challenging this year because I bought a "stuffed" bird by mistake. At the moment I'm leaning towards taking out all the disgusting stuffing and roasting it whole.
Here's hoping all ends well!

In other news, after the last Windows update there's a CoPilot Agent continuously running on my system. Thanks?

I just saw Gilda (1946), and it was okay. Not spectacular, but well made. This was the film that made Rita Hayworth a superstar, but oddly enough she didn't strike me as a femme fatale. Maybe a mild gold digger, but not the kind of woman who makes you lose your mind like Glen Ford does.

Black Star Rising by Frederik Pohl
Pohl is a favorite author of mine, and this is one of his more underrated novels. From 1986, it's the story of what happens when aliens make contact with a post apocalyptic Earth and demand to see the President of the US. But there is no US anymore...

It was all right. A middle of the road Holmes story. The best part is the introduction, where Holmes gets out of cleaning by engaging Watson's curiosity about an early case...

Unfortunately my carpal tunnel flared up while on the bus. It happens infrequently. If I'm home some Tylenol and a heating pad will deal with it, but on the road there was nothing at all to do but bear the pain, which was considerable. I'm afraid it colored the day a bit...

The day started with a panel celebrating 50 years of Captain Canuck, the superhero created by Richard Comely in the 70's. The Captain has the distinction of being the most well known truly Canadian comic character, self published in this country and not owned by a US publisher.

I felt pretty nervous at first, but after working through all the hoops they make us jump through to activate our badges, I stepped through the doors into the biggest adventure of my year.

It's the only convention I can go to, so it's the highlight of the year. I've gone to every Expo since they started in 2012. There are a LOT of memories and amazing experiences all tangled up with that event.
I've been slowly preparing for weeks.

I'll probably watch The Sting. I'd like to see some of his lesser known movies like Little Fauss and Big Halsy or The Electric Horseman, but they're impossible to find.

There's no way in Heaven, Hell or Metropolis the Curt Swan Superman or Clark was in his 20s. And Bruce was about 35, but he was 1955's idea of 25.
They just lied. To children. With the approval of the Comics Code.
