Thanks to @lindamcquaig.bsky.social for this insightful look at the fake populism of Pierre Poilievre - a man who has never held a job other than political rat his whole life.
Thanks Linda for the shout out to me on presenting credible working class politics in Canada.

PP needs fresh case for why Cdns should vote for him, now that he’s lost Trudeau as foil & Trump’s belligerence replaces carbon tax as Canada’s biggest issue. Hard to see much of a case emerging. #cdnpoli www.thestar.com/opinion/cont...
Linda McQuaig: Trump and the Liberals have left Poilievre with an axe but nothing to wield it against
U.S. President Donald Trump’s gunslinger swagger about annexing Canada takes the focus here off the Liberal government’s carbon tax as the greatest danger that could befall Canadians. American troops ...

Happy to be in this excellent piece by Bruce Arthur. Chill out people. Freaking over a tweet is a red flag to a bully.

Bruce Arthur: Canada’s weak-kneed politicians are showing Donald Trump exactly how to exploit us
Too many Canadian politicians didn’t just accept Trump’s bark-at-the-waiter framing, but hopped to attention, ready to serve.

Opinion: This is how Canada should deal with Donald Trump, irrational actor
We cannot fall into the trap of believing the president-elect is rational – so we must not cave into his blackmail or immediately retaliate with self-destructive tariffs

You simply can't say this loud enough. The Conservative playbook pulls much from Trump: attacks, not only on all credible media, but on truth & accountability, rage farming so you don't pay attention to what should enrage you, death of expertise so truth never sees the light of day.
The Conservatives are creating a swamp of media disinformation.
This is what elected Trump.
They have attacked CBC, CTV, Global, the Toronto Star, Canadian Press.
It is about undermining independent media that can hold politicians accountable.

Less shocked by Trump's tariff tweets than I am by the number of Canadians rushing to sanewash them.
The amount of fentanyl that crosses the US-Canadian border is basically homeopathic! This isn't a serious demand! You don't have to be stupid in public!

How much does your Conservative MP actually look out for your best interests? Their leader just blackballed any city that needs to cooperate with the feds to help solve the housing crisis.
Mr. Kram, why are you not sticking up for the people you serve in Regina-Wascana?

Just observing that the National Post is now on week two of breathless stories about the question of Randy Boissonnault's past statements about his indigenaeity (which he has since disavowed) while they did a single story on Danielle Smith's unfounded claim of Cherokee ancestry.

Thoughts for new city councillors…
• You don't have to speak to every item on an agenda
• You can email questions to city staff BEFORE a meeting
• You don't have to tell us about your life experiences
• Referral motions are not debated
• You don't have to scrap everything & start over #yqrcc
