I'll entertain technical arguments about the Summary Offences Act (NSW) when someone can explain how Police can kettle and move on small groups protesting climate issues but somehow this out front of state parliament renders them powerless. www.smh.com.au/national/nsw...

What on earth did the NSW Police think a rally organised by the National Socialist Network would be about?

Let's stop pretending that the billionaire media, endlessly attacking the BBC, has the slightest interest in balance, impartiality and accuracy. They won't be happy until the BBC is more rightwing than Vlad the Impaler. And then it still won't be enough.

A massive congrats to @stopwoodsidemonash.bsky.social - absurd they have to work so hard to get the bare minimum
It's just been confirmed that Monash University is dropping Woodside as a partner because they don't align with their sustainable values. This is an incredible win for @stopwoodsidemonash.bsky.social who have run a dedicated grass roots campaign for years.

Not for the first time, heads have rolled at the BBC following a puffed-up scandal pushed by the UK's Tory press. Will the ABC learn the lessons of its British compatriot?
Bending over backwards for the right isn’t saving the BBC. It won’t save the ABC either

#China is cutting oil demand in transport. Has that ever happened in Western countries?

China’s carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions were unchanged from a year earlier in the third quarter of 2025, extending a flat or falling trend that started in March 2024.

The installed capacity of carbon capture and storage is about 50 megatonnes per annum of carbon, but it actually captures about 30 a year

Have been hunting for this number for a LONG time - buried in a DNV CCS report ->

Wood Mackenzie confirms new natural gas generation is expensive!

$126/MWh in 2030!

New solar plus batteries are less than half the cost of new gas!

New nuclear ($139/MWh) also is getting close to being cheaper than new gas!

Gas too is dirty, biggest CO2 electricity polluter. #energysky

Bitcoin is still a problem, folks
It got overshadowed by the pipeline news, but NYS’s deal to allow Greenidge Generation to keep operating an upstate gas plant *for the sole purpose of mining bitcoin* might be almost as big of a reversal gothamist.com/news/upstate...
Upstate NY Bitcoin mine agrees to slash emissions, will get air permit from the state
The move comes days after Hochul’s administration paved the way for a new natural gas pipeline in New York Harbor.

[COMMENTARY]

A new op-ed warns that Bill Gates’ new essay, “Three Tough Truths About Climate,” risks undermining progress by framing development and climate action as a trade-off.

“The challenge is to ensure everyone thrives on a healthy planet,” she writes.

** Views are the author’s.
No, Bill Gates, we don’t have to choose between people & planet (commentary)
Bill Gates has long been a leading voice in the global response to human health and climate change. His climate investments and advocacy have helped drive innovation, expand access to clean energy…

It's funny how hard we have to work to convince the world that uncontrolle data centre expansion is a climate risk when there's a fossil gas power station called the EXXONMOBIL POWER PLANT being built explicitly to power a data centre
Not enough people know about Homer City. The single largest fossil fuel plant that's being built *explicitly* to power a data centre.

This isn't a future projection, or some hollow marketing. This is physical stuff happening right now.

There's this form of behavioral engineering/coercion going on to use AI when you're not even trying to. Ex: Enterprise Google Slides replaced "Upload an Image", with "Generate an Image" (right?), requiring extra work +adaptation to sidestep the AI-as-default push. It drives me bonkers.

This is a big part of why so many data centre sites are just flat-out straight-up building their own brand new fossil fuelled power stations right next to the data centre
Data-center projects that “may sit empty for years because the local utility isn’t ready to supply electricity.”

One other factor worth considering here is simply that climate and environment groups have themselves been at pains to actively try and bury, hide, and deprioritise climate from the way they walk about climate

Of course, when that happens, politicians and media have full freedom to cast it aside
The Post (me and @kcrowebasspro.bsky.social) analyzed the social media posts and appearances of prominent politicians across the country.

We found that no one is talking about climate change anymore. In 2025, mentions are 60% lower than in 2024.

One striking thing about this @drilledmedia.bsky.social podcast on Norway's internal conflict over oil and climate: The US has the same basic problems - oil and gas wealth skewing our culture and politics - but none of the social benefits that Norway's *publicly owned* O&G wealth provides.
