I'll be visiting my brother's family for Christmas next week, but the family member I am looking forward to seeing the most is Sir Stanley Beans, who was rescued a few months after my last visit early in 2023.

You can be a capable human being and disabled at the same time. Those things don’t contradict each other. People can now stop being surprised every time they find out I’m both.

I start reading over 100 books a year; I finish less than 20% of them.

Books are not homework assignments; if what you're reading doesn't bring you pleasure or satisfaction, give it to your local library and move onto a book that you will truly enjoy.

I absolutely love that Everything Is Tuberculosis (signed edition) is cheaper on Amazon than Everything Is Tuberculosis (unsigned edition).

My signature is worth negative seven dollars. Incredible. Wondrous.

I hit 75,000 signatures today. Still a long way to go, but I'm grinding toward 100k.

Just got my latest royalty statement and learned that a total of 14,341 copies of my little book about being a librarian have sold since publishing. Small potatoes compared to some, but beyond the hopes of the kid who once dreamed of publishing a book and never thought it’d happen.

Since we’re talking about how much billionaires suck again, here’s a reminder that your local indie bookstore deserves your business this holiday season. They have gift cards and are happy to mail stuff out. Same goes for @bookshop-org.bsky.social. Buy books. Give books. Support bookstores.

Autism is a spectrum, not one that goes from less autistic to more autistic, but rather a spectrum of symptoms that vary in severity from autistic person to autistic person.

Stop worrying that the pages aren't good enough.

If they aren't good enough, you'll make them good enough when you edit. Sometimes, you have to see a thing on the page before you know exactly what it is supposed to be.

The rights words often only come after the wrong ones.

Photo from my collection - the seller said it was from 1964 but I don’t know where they got that date. Anyway, it has not been filtered or modified by me - whether by accident or on purpose it was overexposed to wonderful effect.

I love looking at people’s personal libraries. Especially the books that people tell me they read over and over throughout their lives.

It’s like seeing the foundational texts of someone’s life, values and interests.

What are your personal foundational texts?
