This is the second pedestrian to be killed on Route 190 in Enfield this year. Yesterday’s fatal and preventable pedestrian crash happened 0.1 mile from where a motorcycle rider was killed in a March 2024 collision.

Y’all, it’s up to 58 now. 4 in 48 hours. I’ll update details after work.

If people need to use both sides of a road -- and why would there be two sides if that wasn't the case -- then they have to be able to safely move on and to both sides. Why is this so hard to understand when it comes to pedestrian infrastructure?

I know the state will want to be applauded because there is some sidewalk where there was none a few years ago, but this all comes off as checking a box to show progress.

This happened where:

Speed limit: 40 MPH
Sidewalks: randomly alternating sides
Crosswalks: No marked crosswalks anywhere in vicinity. How do you go from one orphaned sidewalk to another?!

Then, last night at a time no news outlet seems to know, a driver struck and killed a pedestrian on Route 1 in Branford. This happened in an area with retail, restaurants, other businesses, and homes. The victim's identity is withheld while family notification awaits.

The pedestrian has not been identified, but what is known is that the drivers of four vehicles struck this person. Three of the four left the scene AND it needs to be said that the 4th person's vehicle was disabled, not giving them much choice over staying or going.

At 6:24 AM, apparently four minutes after a driver killed a pedestrian in Bloomfield, another pedestrian was needlessly murdered on Wednesday morning. That preventable series of collisions happened on I-95 in Stamford.

There are hi-vis signs alerting drivers to the presence of pedestrians, but without any actual infrastructure to keep walkers safe, those yellow signs don’t even amount to virtue signaling. There is a 35 MPH posted speed limit.

There are no sidewalks or painted crosswalks even though there are bus stops along part of Woodland Ave and people would be seeking to safely reach their jobs at nearby businesses: Foodshare, Homegoods Distribution Center, Access, etc., or at the 6-12 grade Academy of International Studies.

This happened on Woodland Avenue at the intersection with West Newberry Road in the part of Bloomfield that is a bizarre mix of rural, residential, and industrial.

The driver of an International 2000 Series Dump Truck struck a currently unidentified male pedestrian at 6:20 AM. Though the man was pronounced dead at the scene, that detail about his condition was not shared until hours later.
