Five years of presidents with dementia with their staff and political allies covering for them. And at least three more to go. Perhaps senility will become a requirement for the US presidency. 😮‍💨

A very well-known short story by Arthur C. Clarke. I remember reading this when I was a kid. An excellent retelling.

He's very slowly coming out of his shell. Observing him early this morning I see he plays. I think he may just be very scared of people. He does like being petted and scratched if you can convince him he's safe. Slow progress is still progress.

A few of my passengers from Salt Lake to Blackfoot, Idaho yesterday. They're part of a rescue from a hoarding situation in New Mexico. 22 dogs in the van. Drove the 2nd part of an all-day trip from Kanab in southern Utah. They were happy to unload!

I think that searching a document for errant colons and removing them should legitimately be called a colonoscopy.
Midway into proofs. Just asked editors to "replace semicolon with Colin"

And the same rules should apply to politicians!
I never thought I’d say this, but I agree with MTG 100%.

And for the record, I’m not paid for any of my opinions. Never have been, never will be.

GDP measures the value of the goods and services produced within a country's borders. That's it. It was never meant to be a measure of "prosperity." It says nothing about how those goods are distributed, and nothing about the happiness and welfare of the inhabitants.

End GDP mania: how the world should really measure prosperity
The obsession with economic output as a measure of human development puts sustainability on the back burner. Researchers can now help to devise better indicators.

We still have a CDC? Are you sure? Could be fake news.
Chagas disease, a parasitic infection transmitted by the kissing bug and has long been associated with Latin America, is now considered endemic in the United States. Public health experts call for more testing, education, and treatment options.

Thank heavens I'm retired. But were I to post something even mildly critical of Mr. Kirk, would I risk losing my Social Security benefits? This is a somewhat serious question.

I would not — and I cannot stress this enough — trust anything coming from Pam Bondi, Kash Patel or anonymous "internal law enforcement sources." Fascists lie. We have evidence, both contemporary and historical. Unless there is indisputable proof behind a claim made in this case, question it.

I like cuckoo clocks. But I wouldn't buy one from Silicon Valley.
Feels like Silicon Valley has truly gone insane and should go back to making simpler stuff: wooden cuckoo clocks, novelty back scratchers. And for their own sake, have most of their wealth seized. What an opportunity for them to learn! A cuckoo clock, delightful.
