The duel between Balian and Guy at the end of Kingdom of Heaven after surrendering Jerusalem, restored in the Director's Cut, is often criticized as one of the smart things to have cut for ruining tempo. It's better seen as one final death blow to kleos at its most pathetic.

As the Eternal 2016 Democratic Primary continues, I think the truth for the liberal left is more difficult to arrive at so long as admitting your dance partner isn't as bad as you pretend.

I like the Celebrity True or False thing Rich Eisen does. It's just a pure fan love for movies and behind the scenes lore. But the one he did with Morgan Freeman felt like it shouldn't have been done. Morgan is old as shit and doesn't have a lot to offer in ways of stories. He was struggling.

There’s a moment in the classic film “Paths of Glory” in which an artillery officer, told to commit a war crime, asks for the order in writing.

That is happening right now, in real life, among US troops in the Carribbean.

Except in the movie, the demand kept the crime from happening.

Bill Hader's 2013 impression of a Kid Stays in the Picture-era Robert Evans (a choice only a cinephile like Bill would make) remains one of the best ever roast performances, but also he basically spelled James Franco's doom here and gave a nod to Dave Franco eclipsing him.

Gemini does seem like it's frog-leaped ChatGPT. It's way smarter. I'm less confident in an AI bubble coming any time soon, than I am a Sam Altman self-defenestration coming.

When engaging with the right and you object to what they're saying, you should frequently ask yourself: "are they wrong because you don't like the implications or because their facts are wrong." You won't win any battles if your chief opponent is yourself.

The ending of Big Love was significantly more beautiful and well done than I remembered. Chloe Sevigny won the Golden Globe for season 3, but she should've gotten another one for 5. What an achingly great show. Began as a sort of queer subversion of trad society, ended as liberationist.
