It's hard to overstate how destructive the reflexive "this is a distraction!" stuff that politicians and commentators and people are always peddling.

Everything is happening all at once. That's how authoritarianism works. If you can't navigate and synthesize this, you're not meeting the moment.

this, like the trans panic, show billionaires can sway public opinion significantly by hiring fake experts and inundating the population with their desired messaging. it’s a huge problem and one i’m not sure how to contend with as of yet

Gonna repeat: Democrats love to ask how Trump voters can be so stupid. And yet, 50% of New Yorkers are supporting Cuomo who is a serial sexual harasser, got thousand killed during COVID, and orchestrated GOP control of the NY legislature.
Andrew Cuomo literally architected GOP control of the state legislature. He is the definition of a DINO.

Do not rank Andrew Cuomo on your ballot.
Eric Adams got his corruption charges dropped. All it took was selling out New Yorkers to Donald Trump.

We’re all tired of this spineless, failed mayor, but remember: Andrew Cuomo is running for Adams' 2nd term.

Same donors. Same chaos. Just a new Trump ally in Gracie Mansion.

The fact that tarrifs are on the top of front pages consistently while people getting abducted off the streets for their free speech without due process is relegated far lower should tell us everything about where much of the media establishment sees our priorities as a society.

I've been thinking about this post a lot. Those of us used to mainly acting through speech/speech acts of various kinds are going to need to get comfortable, --quickly-- with rapid *embodied* action of the kinds described below. And to do it collectively whenever possible.
The guy filming does a good job of questioning the masked abductors. We need more.

I promise you, if something like this ever happens in my presence, I will make a scene. Filming, yelling for help, questioning the kidnappers, calling the cops, whatever. We cannot let these events happen quietly.

When this presidency ends—and it will end—we need a Rooseveltian plan to not only undo the damage he did, but build bigger than we’ve ever built before.

Big universal programs and mandates. Pack the SCOTUS. Kill Buckley v. Valeo and Citizens United v. FEC. New anti-trust laws aimed at Amazon. Etc.
Trump's executive order tonight has illegally cancelled union contracts for 67% of the federal workforce & 75% of unionized federal employees — roughly 700,000 union workers
