British economic sentiment is following the US in becoming an increasingly partisan signal.

There has been a red-blue sentiment gap for decades, but it’s widening (data: @ipsosintheuk.bsky.social / @keiranpedley.bsky.social)

My gut says as long as immigration and asylum are the number one issue for the public then Reform wins the next election comfortably. Labour simply won’t win a political arms race on that subject. Question is can they move tue conversation on?

Rewatching Derry girls. What a wonderful show. Clinton episode really hits home. Politics can be a depressing, soul sucking thing at times. But sometimes it works. Sometimes things really do get better. And that’s great.

New deep dive polling by @ipsosintheuk.bsky.social

I think potentially quite a lot but let’s deep dive 🧵

Why are Reform going big on crime?

@ipsosintheuk.bsky.social polling shows its the one Labour mission where the public think Reform would do the best job

The most important thing any new left wing party could do is have a simple name. None of this united socialist workers of great britain yadda yadda nonsense. Something clean. The new left party or similar. Does what it says on the tin. See Brexit party for details.

Find my views on this new Corbyn / Sultana left wing party evolving a bit. Think it could do pretty well - especially under FPTP which rewards a geopgraphical concentration of votes. Headache for Labour that should be taken seriously.
July 31, 2025 at 10:10 AM
If a priority for a new left party is some kind of alliance or pact with the Greens then why is there a need for a new party at all? Why not just join the Greens / create a new combined entity?

Lots of talk of further Tory to Reform UK defections.

If I was Reform i'd be very wary about being seen as a reincaranation of the Conservative Party.

Keir Starmer needs to answer one big question - what is he for?

I take a deep dive into which direction @ipsosintheuk.bsky.social data suggests Labour should take ✍️🧵

Keir Starmer still needs to answer one big question – what is he for?
As Labour marks a year in office, divisions over welfare policy and dire poll ratings mean the party is not in a celebratory mood.

In my piece for @politicshome.bsky.social
today I explain how @ipsosintheuk.bsky.social
data shows there is a case for Labour targeting Refom leaning Labour voters on immigration / welfare & a case for targeting younger progressives.

Starmer may reject the premise of choosing but it’s risky

New @ipsosintheuk.bsky.social polling for @skynewsrss.bsky.social shows 6 in 10 doubt Keir Starmer’s ability to unite Labour under his leadership and only one in four think it likely he wins the next election.

news.sky.com/story/just-2...
Just 25% of public think Sir Keir Starmer will win next election - with welfare row partly to blame
A poll by Ipsos, shared with Sky News, shows 63% do not feel confident the government is running the country efficiently - a similar verdict given to Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak.

How likely is Keir Starmer to turn poor poll ratings around?

Re-upping my piece for @politicshome from December looking at what historic @ipsosintheuk.bsky.social polling tells us about how past PMs did (and didnt) recover

Starmer’s honeymoon in office was short-lived – but how does it compare to past PMs?
Having won a historic landslide general election victory in July, it is fair to say that Labour’s honeymoon in office has been short-lived.
