We're back today with Edmonton's Winters - the Good, the Bad, and the Data (Part 2).
Let's talk snow!
(Our only snowfall measurement is at the airport, which is quite a bit colder than the city. But it's what we've got, so we'll use it)

Based on this map from r/edmonton Knack won every neighbourhood with a protected on street bike lane. #yegbike

A few more thoughts:

We have a lot of road widening projects coming up in #yeg. We should be asking if it’s worth the millions to limit congestion for a few minutes each day.

We never got called on to talk at the Traffic safety meeting. I did get a chance to bring up most of our points after.

Emotions were high and people are frustrated with our unsafe streets. 🧵

I’ll be attending the traffic safety town hall tonight. Is there anything I should ask Knack #yegbike?

Another predictable fatality in Edmonton.

The city built a MUP on that intersection encouraging people to cross. There are multiple slip lanes and no infrastructure to slow drivers down.

With the increased size of SUVs and trucks Edmonton should update our daylighting laws. 5m only in the direction of travel is not enough. Why should you have to enter the road to be visible?

Another avoidable collision #yegbike

This is right in the middle of LRT construction. The temporary MUP in the area ins't particularly great, and many of the projects intersections are unsafe crossings.

We need to do better.

Hopefully everyone involved in this collision is ok!
After 20:00hrs Thursday, EMS and the EFRS responded to a serious collision in the area of 111ST & 9AVE. A youth on a bicycle was reportedly hit by a driver. (Exact location is not currently known) No current update on injuries. #yeg

CBC posted a video talking about a building losing its on street parking due to bike lanes. Somehow they failed to mention the building’s TWO visitor parking lots. One of which you can even see in the video. #yegbike

Speaking Municipally mayor Knack interview:

I wished there was more pushback on knacks induced demand. We are likely to see a number of road widening projects this term and we should be more thoughtful about how we approach them.

More capacity just throw more cars into inner city neighbourhoods

Callingwood streets lab interactive map is up. Hopefully the city will actually do something about 178 st and 64 ave. It’s absolutely ridiculous to have a MUP in a busy shopping area without a crosswalk let alone curb extensions.

Drivers never look for pedestrians when they leave parking lots. We need raised crosswalks or speed bumps to be standard.

Making a map with just the express and frequent service routes would be nice.
